CREATION OF NEW POLICE STATIONS PART OF GOVT AGENDA TO CREATE SECURE ENVIRONMENT

There is a need to create secure environment because peace and security precedes all development initiatives and therefore new police stations and police outposts are being created to ensure that the fruits of development reach every nook and corner of the State, said Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma after inaugurating the newly created Chiading Police Station in East Garo Hills on Tuesday. On July 3, 2017, the State Government notified the for the creation of a new police station at Chiading in East Garo Hills district to be known as Chiading Police Station, which will cover 79 villages including Samanda block headquarter in East Garo Hills which were earlier under the jurisdiction of Songsak and Williamnagar Police Stations. Before the creation of this police station there was not a single policing unit along the highway from Jengjal to Songsak. Parliamentary Secretaries, Noverfield Marak, Brigady Marak and Sengnam Marak, DGP S.B.Singh, DIG Western Range, Mukesh Kr. Singh, Deputy Commissioner H.B. Marak, SPs and police officials of various rank & file were among many others present during the inaugural function.

The Chief Minister assured the people of the area that they can expect more development to follow since they already have a police station. Referring to Direct Benefit Transfer (BDT) of all welfare schemes, he also said they would no longer have to travel all the way to Williamnagar for any bank transaction because with the presence of a police station banks will now be willing to come forward to set up their offices in the area. Informing the gathering about new police recruitment process in which there would be no scope for manipulation of marks, Dr. Sangma said that even youths with poor education background would have a level playing ground and there would be no room for job aspirants to be angry and frustrated. “The government will be having recruitment after recruitment so there will be no end to giving opportunities to the youth in this sector”, he said. Stating that policing goes beyond running after the criminals and should facilitate good governance, the Chief Minister asked the new police station to reach out to the people and sensitize them about law and order and governance. He also informed the gathering about the government’s decision to have lay-bye markets along the national highways in the state, adding that one such lay-bye market would be sanctioned for Chiading area. Earlier, DGP, SB Singh in his address highlighted how the department with the cooperation of the people of East Garo Hills has been able to contain militancy to some extent. However there are some pockets in the region that still continue to be the stronghold of militants he said and expressed hope that with creation of more police stations and cooperation of the people they would be able to put an end to militancy. Deputy Commissioner H.B.Marak read out the government notification for creation of Chiading Police Station and handed it over to Officer in charge of the new police station.
