NOTIFICATION

Shillong, July 7, 2010: The bridge no.8/1 at Pynursal Nongjri road is closed to all kinds of vehicular traffic until further orders in view of the major damage to the bridge, which occurred on July 5, 2010. Repair work is in progress and restoration of traffic will be done at the earliest possible. This was informed by the Executive Engineer. PWD (Roads) Shillong South Division, Shillong.

NOTIFICATION

Shillong, July 7, 2010: The Government of India is in the process of ratifying the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No.127 concerning maximum weight. It stipulates that no worker shall be required to engage in manual transport of all load which by reason of its weight is likely to jeopardize his/her health and safety. Also, it lays down that workers engaged in manual transport of load should be given adequate prior training or instruction in working techniques. As far as possible, suitable technical devices should be used to facilitate the manual loads as compared to adult male workers.

The Convention applies to all branches of economic activities which have been covered by a system of Labour Inspection. In view of this, all the factory owners and stake holders in the State of Meghalaya should henceforth ensure full compliance of maximum 50 kgs packaging for carrying manual loads.

SCHOLARSHIP SCHEMES FOR MERITORIOUS STUDENTS BELONGING TO MINORITIES

Shillong, July 7, 2010: Applications are invited from girl students belonging to the Minority communities i.e Muslims, Christians, Buddhist and Sikhs notified by the Minister of Minority Affairs Government of India pursuing education from call XI in Government schools/institutes recognized by appropriate authority for Maulana Azad National Scholarship to be awarded by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India for the year 2010-2011.

Applications in the Prescribed Format can be collected from the Office of the Director of Higher and Technical Education, Meghalaya, Shillong or can be downloaded from the website-www.maef.nic.in The last date of submission is on or before August 30, 2010. No application will be entertained after the above specified date.

Scholarship will be awarded to the Meritorious Girl students belonging to Minority communities who have secured not less than 55 percent marks or Equivalent Grade in the Secondary School Certificate Examination. The Scholarship is a onetime scholarship and no claim as permanent beneficiary will be entertained. Student once selected for scholarship can not avail the same again. A Scholarship holder under these schemes will not avail or any other Scholarship/stipend. The annual income of the parents/guardian from all sources should not exceed Rs. 1, 00,000 (Rupees One Lakh) only.
