STATE PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION CELL RENAMED

The Principal Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Programme Implementation & Evaluation Department has informed that the State Project Implementation Cell has been renamed as Project Monitoring Unit in addition to its current work under the Programme Implementation & Evaluation Department for monitoring of schemes and projects.

ZILA SAINIK WELFARE OFFICE SET UP AT TURA

The Government of Meghalaya has set up the Zila Sainik Welfare Office at Tura under the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Meghalaya, to cater to all the five Districts of Garo Hills and will temporarily function from the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Tura. This was informed by the Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, General Administration Department.

NOTIFICATION

: In a notification issued, the Government of Meghalaya has appointed Smti. Susanna K. Nongrum, Advocate for Ri Bhoi District, as the Special Public Prosecutor for the purpose of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 with immediate effect and until further orders. This was informed by the Under Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Law Department. The term of appointment of Shri. Sudip Paul Chaudhury as Special Public Prosecutor under the aforesaid Act shall deem to be de-notified.

CHIEF MINISTER INAUGURATES DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM AND TRAVEL MANAGEMENT

Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma today inaugurated the Department of Tourism and Travel Management in Lady Keane College, Shillong. Speaking to the gathering in his Inaugural Address, Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma said that the new Department of Tourism & Travel Management will bring in transformative changes in the years to come. He said that this will also generate optimism and hope among the youth and effectively contribute to the growth and prosperity of the state. He also added that Tourism is the most inclusive sector that can blend with other sectors to create opportunities and products. The Chief Minister further stated that Education and Tourism is the most viable and sustainable sector and that there is a need to promote entrepreneurial courses among the students. “The educational system that we have built is not in sync with the aspirations of the youth who want to become entrepreneurs and there is a need to shift from the conventional courses of education to be able to respond to the higher dreams and aspirations of the new generation,” he said. Dr Sangma also said that the courses in colleges should mould and equip the students to become job providers not job seekers. The Chief Minister added that the potentialities in our backyard should be leveraged upon to create high end and exclusive products. He also said that Education and Health sector blended with Tourism can be game changers for the state. Dr Sangma also said Education can create opportunities and also brand build the state as destination for Education. Earlier, in her Welcome Address, Principal, Dr C Massar informed that the college had certificate and diploma courses in Tourism since 2008 and the Degree Course is being introduced from this year with the objective of connecting rural with urban education. Giving a glimpse of the Department, Mr M O Rynjah said that the course is affiliated to NEHU providing professional aids in specific subjects. He further informed Skills Based Development, Employment Oriented Courses, Field trips, Lectures from Experts, 6 Months Intensive Industry Training and Performance Based Placements would be provided under the course.

JOWAI GETS AMPHITHEATRE

Deputy Chief Minister Prof. R.C Laloo today inaugurated the 2nd Amphitheatre of the State at Moolasyat, a few distance from Jowai town and near to Jowai Police Reserve in the presence of R.V Lyngdoh, minster incharge Art & Culture Department, M. War Nongbri MCS, Director Art & Culture, D.M Wallang MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Puramon Kynjing, Daloi of Jowai Elaka Speaking on this memorable day Prof. R.C Laloo expressed his gratitude to the Department of Art & Culture Government of Meghalaya under the Leadership of Minister incharge R.V Lyngdoh, for the construction of this beautiful Amphitheatre in the District wherein the youths of the District who are very fond of music will get an opportunity to showcase their talent and upgrade the same. He requested the department to start organising some events so that people of the District will get familiar with the place and the the interested youths will be able to showcase their culture. He further praised the department for having selected the right place surrounded by the beautiful green scenery and beautiful topography around the area that adds beauty and attraction to this amphitheater. He further informed that the land of an area of 1.80 acre was allotted by the housing Department built at a cost of 1.96 crore and has a sitting capacity of around 1400. R.V Lyngdoh, minister incharge Arts and culture informed that the Amphitheater was constructed as the Government of Meghalaya have realised that the State need facility like this place to promote the rich and abundant culture and talent available in the State and District . As informed, the purpose of this theatre is the urgent requirement for organising art and cultural event and programme in the state because the existing auditorium in Jowai situated at Mynthong is in a heavy demand and it is not adequate to hold rock show or concerts especially for the youths of the state. Therefore there was an urgent and great felt need to construct this auditorium theatre so that it will be able to cater the need of non-sporting events and activities.
