LEGAL LITERACY CAMPAIGN AT MAWPHLANG

The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District has organized a Legal Literacy Campaign at Mawphlang village, East Khasi Hills District on August 31, 2006. The campaign was organized with a view to create awareness among the people about various important legal issues and Fundamental Rights.

In the Lecture and interaction session the Members of the State Legal Services Authority, Mrs. M. R. Mawlong, IAS (Retd) enlightened the people about the Consumer Protection Rights, Mr. B. E. Wahlang spoke on the issue of Pensioner benefit, Mr. W. H. D. Syngkon, Additional Advocate General dwelt at length on the general legal issues. The subject of Motor Vehicles Rules and Law was taken by Mr. B. R. Rana, DIG (CID), and Mrs. C. D. Shira, DSP (CID) spoke on the issue of Crime Against Women.

The function was presided over by Mr. T. Lyngwa, ADM, East Khasi Hills District while Mr. K. Lyngdoh Mawphlang, delivered the welcome address and Mrs. P. Kharkongor, BDO, Mawphlang, C &RD Block proposed the vote of thanks.

SPECIAL INTERACTIVE PROGRAMME HELD

With the aim of informing, educating and communicating to the public about various schemes and programmes of the Agriculture Department, the Office of the Sub-Divisional Public Relations Officer in collaboration with the office of the Sub-Divisional Agricultural Officer, Resubelpara Sub-Division, East Garo Hills District organized a Special Interactive Programme (SIP) on the theme “Better Income Generation Through Diversified Farming”.The programme was inaugurated by Mr. T.D.Shira, MLA at Monfort School, Jonglapara, on August 31, 2006, in the presence of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Resubelpara Sub-Division and other officials.

Speaking at the inaugural function, attended by farmers and elders, Mr. Shira appealed to the farmers and officers of the department of Agriculture to work together towards the upliftment of the farming community of the sub-division. He then expressed optimism that the introduction of such programmes would go a long way in making the State less dependent on the import of foodgrains and other agricultural produce.

Later, Zico Momin, Agricultural Inspector touched upon topics such as Jute Cultivation and Multiple Cropping, Sister Rose Kayathinkara, Chairman Mendipathar Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. shed some light on entrepreneur motivation, problems and prospects of growing rubber, market intelligence and financial management and W.G Momin, Animator (SHG) shared his working experience in the field.

The programme ended with a lively interaction between the resource persons and farmers.

NOTIFICATION

The Government of Meghalaya has notified the governing bodies of respective District Rural Development Agencies of the State and Block Selection Committees of respective C&RD Blocks as District Employment Councils and Block Employment Councils for purpose of implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005 (NREGA), Meghalaya Employment Guarantee Scheme (MREGS) with immediate effect and until further orders.

COMMUNITY ENROLMENT DRIVE HELD AT WARMAWSAW

The Block Level Community Enrolment Drive organized by the Block Level Resource Centre (BRC), SSA Jirang, was held yesterday at Warmawsaw, Ri Bhoi District. Mr. W.L. Mynsong, Deputy CEM, KHADC was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Mr. W. Wahlang, Syiem of Jirang was the Guest of Honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mynsong informed that the Government through the SSA, is keen to see that by the year 2010 every citizen has access to quality education. He therefore urged upon parents encourage their children to go to schools for their future benefit. He also called upon teachers and members involved in the implementation of the SSA to be sincere in their duties.

Among others who spoke on the occasion were Mr. H. Wahlang, Syiem of Jirang, Mr. M. H. Thabah, Inspector of Schools, Mr. H.K.Lapang, BDO and Chairman SSA, SMAM, Jirang BRC.

It may be mentioned that the programme commenced with a procession of school students carrying placards and slogans urging drop-out students to some back to school.

Similar programmes were also organized by the Umling Block at Borkhatsari and Diwon on August 24 and 30, 2006 respectively.

CUT ROSES SALE ON SEPTEMBER 4TH AND 5TH 2006

In commemoration of TEACHER’S DAY celebration and as part of its effort to popularize the use of cut flowers in the state and to encourage farmer entrepreneur, the Office of the District Horticulture Officer, Ri Bhoi District under the Directorate of Horticulture will make available cut Roses on the 4th and 5th September, 2006. The different sale points are Don Bosco Square, Laitumkrah, Urban Parking Lot, Police Bazar, Parking Lot near DI of Schools, Motphran as well as Umsning and Nongpoh. Stall will be open from 1.00 P.M. on the 4th and from 7.00. A.M on 5th September 2006.

SECTION 144 CR.P.C. PROMULGATED

The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong has promulgated an order under Section 144 Cr.P.C. prohibiting persons or Organizations from indulging in collection of any kind of donation from members of the business community and people at large in contribution towards any group of persons/organizations in cash or in kind in the whole of East Khasi Hills District. This order will exempt donations/contributions in places of religious worship.

This order will come into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders.
