DIRECT BENEFIT TRANSFER (DBT) PORTAL LAUNCHED
The DBT Portal of the Government of Meghalaya was officially launched on 4th August, 2017 by Shri Sanjay Goyal, Secretary, Finance Department in the presence of Shri T. Dkhar, State Informatics Officer, NIC, Shillong, Smti W. Shallam, Director of Accounts & Treasuries and other officials of the State Government. The Portal contains information of Central and State schemes implemented by the State Government where benefits, both cash and in-kind are transferred directly to the beneficiaries. Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) is a major reform initiative launched by the Government of India on 1st January, 2013 to re-engineer the existing delivery processes using modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This programme aims to transfer benefits directly into the bank/postal accounts, preferably Aadhaar seeded, of accurately targeted beneficiaries. This marks a paradigm shift in the process of delivering government benefits like wage payments, fuel subsidies, food grain subsidies etc. directly into the hands of the beneficiaries, speeding up payments, removing leakages, and enhancing financial inclusion. The DBT through its customer-friendly processes ensures the last mile connectivity, allowing actual disbursements to take place at the doorstep of the beneficiaries through a network of bank branches and Business Correspondents (BCs) with micro ATM machines. The State DBT Portal will serve as a dashboard of the implementation of DBT by the Government for the welfare of the citizens. The State Portal will be linked with dbtbharat of the Govt. of India and is accessible on the URL: http://megdbt.gov.in.
