RUN FOR DEMOCRACY ON NATIONAL VOTERS DAY

Shillong, January 22, 2013: The National Voters Day will be celebrated on January 25, 2013 in all the Polling Stations, Sub-Divisional and District headquarters of the State. In the State capital, a Run for Democracy will be organized by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya on the said date.

The run will be flagged off from the Soso Tham Auditorium (State Central Library) from 7:00 AM and will cover Police Bazar, Motphran, Jeep Stand, GS Road, Stanley Roy Petrol Pump, Mawlai Nonglum, Mawlai Mawdatbaki, FCI, Mawroh, PTS, Golf Links, Polo Bazar, Fourth Furlong, MES, Rynjah, Khlieh Nongthymmai, St. Edmund’s and culminate at Soso Tham Auditorium.

Cash awards of Rs. 25,000/-, Rs. 20,000/- and Rs. 15,000/- will be given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winner respectively for men and women upto 35 years and above 35 years. Consolation prizes of Rs. 10,000/- will also be given to the youngest and oldest participant. Ten lucky winners will be given @ Rs. 1000/- each by draw of lot amongst those who have completed the run.

Participants are to submit their names along with proof of age to Mr. S Warjri or Mr. P T Passah, Extra Assistant Commissioners in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Shillong, Room No. 324, during office hours before January 23, 2013.

COMPLAINT MONITORING CELL

Shillong, January 22, 2013: In compliance with the direction of the Election Commission of India, the Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District has informed that any offer of cash, liquor, gift items or free food to the electors during the election process is bribe. Both the persons, offering and accepting such bribe are liable for punishment with imprisonment up to one year and fine.

Flying Squads and surveillance teams have been formed to keep watch over such activities during the election process. It is also appealed that general public may inform such incident to the Complaint Monitoring cell at Deputy Commissioners office over a toll free telephone numbers, 8575063501 and 8575063502 and 85750635 at Sub-Divisional Office (Civil) Mairang.

DRY DAY DECLARED

Shillong, January 22, 2013: The Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin has declared Dry Day on the whole of the West Khasi Hills District on 26th January, 2013 on account of Republic Day.

All liquor shops, IMFL shops, bar hotels, canteen, CA bars, CS shops, outstills shall remain closed on the above mentioned date.

MEGHALAYA GOVERNOR GREETS PCRA ON THE OBSERVANCE OF OIL AND GAS CONSERVATION FORTNIGHT 2013

Shillong, January 22, 2012: On the observance of Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight (GCF) 2013 from 15th to 31st January 2013, the Governor of Meghalaya Shri R S Mooshahary has extended his greeting to the Petroleum Conservation Research Association.

In a message to the Association, Shri R S Mooshahary complimented the oil sector for their support to OGFC and wished them all success in their critical task of spearheading the national movement on energy conservation.

Stating that oil and gas conservation results in better and more efficient use of energy resources, reducing economic, social and environmental costs, he added that there is immense scope for energy conservation and energy efficiency in the transportation, industrial agricultural, residential and commercial sectors. He also said that investment in energy efficiency ultimately results in an economic win –win proposition for all.
