CM LAYS FOUNDATION STONE FOR GIRLS RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL AT BANGRANGGRE ON 31.01.2022

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma in the presence of MLA Phulbari LAC, S G Esmatur Mominin and other dignitaries laid the Foundation Stone for Girls residential School at Bangranggre, under Demdema C and RD Block, West Garo Hills District.

Addressing the gathering during the foundation stone laying ceremony, the Chief Minster, Government of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma expressed his gratitude to the land donor, the Nokma of the area for generously donating his land for this project. Stating that the present Government has been working with special emphasis on the Education Sector, he said that education is necessary to provide required knowledge and qualification to the youths of the region so that they are able to qualify themselves for various job opportunities and other undertaking and thereby uplift the society and reach greater heights in future. Expressing hope that the Girls Residential School is expected to help and educate especially girl students of the area, he said that now they do not the need to send their children to other places to study adding that the residential school will provide accommodation facilities also. Mentioning that many Government Schools are in dilapidated condition, he said that the government has in the last few years have repaired about 500 schools amounting to the tune of Rs. 200 crores and is planning to repair or renovate about 450 schools in the State in the coming years.

Mentioning numerous developmental activities in Education Sector, the Chief Minster informed that the new construction of Government Colleges in Williamnagar, Baghmara and Sohra has already been started which is due for completion by year end and have also started nine Community Colleges across the State. Added to these, he also informed that the Government is continuously supporting the Women Groups of the region stating that they have extended support to the Self Help Groups including other Groups and about 3, 50, 000 members of SHGs were benefited. Further, he stated that the direct benefit to Farmers under the FOCUS program were also being provided by giving them Rs. 5000 each to their groups and so far about 4, 50, 000 farmers have benefitted from this scheme, he said. Emphasizing the importance of the project, he urged the respective MLA S G E Mominin, Officials of the department, Nokma and the people of the area to inspect and monitor the progress of the work ensuring that good quality materials is used for construction of the school building and complete the project in the stipulated time.

Meanwhile, the MLA Phulbari Assembly Constituency, S G Esmatur Mominin expressed his thankfulness to the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for implementing this project in his constituency and informed that this is the First ever Girls Residential School in the whole of Meghalaya sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Vikas Karyakram (PMVK) Scheme provided by Minority Affairs Department, Government of India. Mentioning that the estimated project cost is about 19 Crores, he said that the infrastructure comprises of School Building, Girls Hostel, Staff Quarters and Principal’s Bungalow which is scheduled to be completed in two years time. Added to these, there are other developments that are taking place in the region under the leadership of the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, he said.

In his introductory address, the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh highlighted the importance of setting up this residential School in the area and informed that many students of this area have made up to the top list in the previous Examinations conducted adding that recently two students who scored highest marks in NEET Entrance examination are from the Phulbari area. Therefore, he advised especially the students to avail the opportunity provided by the government and scale greater heights in future career.

It may be mentioned that the Nokma of the Bangraggre A’king Land, Sonjing Ch. Marak have generously donated his 200 Bighas of his preserved land for constructing the Girls Residential School in Bangraggre under Demdema C and RD Block, West Garo Hills district. Director, Social Welfare Department, D D Shira, Chief Engineer, MGCCL, J P Mahanta, Former MDC Roynath D Sangma were among others who spoke on the occasion while Members of District Council, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division, Vibhor Aggarwal, Block Development Officer, Demdema C and RD Block, Pittingson Sangma, people of the area were among others present at the function. Earlier, during the function, the Chief Minister and other dignitaries unveiled the plaque and also laid the foundation for the school building.
