CHIEF MINISTER TOUR TO DELHI FOR MORE FUNDS

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. D.D Lapang today left for Delhi to follow up and seek more funds for various developmental schemes in the State. The Chief Minister in his visit will also take up the matter relating to the inauguration of the North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) which is still pending.

Meanwhile, Dr. Lapang will visit Jaintia Hills District and West Khasi Hills District on January 10th and 12th 2006, respectively. Dr. Lapang will be accompanied by his cabinet colleagues and senior government officials to look into various development programmes, which are time bound in these two districts. The Chief Minister will also meet the District Officers, public leaders, local representatives, NGOs, Church leaders, Heads of Educational Institutions and others. Organizations who desire to meet the Chief Minister should submit their names to their respective Deputy Commissioners for necessary arrangements

The Chief Minister will also visit other Districts of the State within this month

CHECKING OF COMMERCIAL VEHICLES IN RI BHOI DISTRICT

The District administration of Ri Bhoi District, in its meeting held in the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner today decided to conduct a regular checking with effect from 11.01.2006 against Autorickshaws plying in the District without valid documents like driving license, permit, insurance policy, carrying passengers more than capacity of 3+1 and carrying of any items more than the size of the Autorickshaws. The meeting also decided that all Autorickshaws should get their right side door sealed

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District in its meeting held in his office chamber today and attended by the officials from the Department of Forest, Taxes, Transport, Police and the Directorate of Mineral Resources (DMR) has decided to conduct a regular checking at Umling with effect from 11.1.2006 against trucks plying along the National Highway carrying goods weighing more than the challan of 15 MT issued by the DMR and Sales Tax in case of coal and 10 MT issued by the Sales Tax and Forest Department in case of other items. Moreover, checking will also be conducted against trucks having no valid documents like permit, insurance policy and driving license

LINK ROAD AND BRIDGE INAUGURATED

A link road and a bridge was inaugurated today at Mawsadang village near Tyrsad, East Khasi Hills District by Meghalaya Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. J.A. Lyngdoh who is also the local MLA. The bridge was constructed by the state PWD at a total cost of Rs.11 lacs and the total amount sanctioned for the Tyrsad-Mawsadang is Rs.75 lacs.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Lyngdoh said that with the opening up of the bridge the long awaited dream of the people of the area has been fulfilled. He said that the bridge was important as it will be a major link bridge for villages beyond Mawsdang. He informed that the total cost for the road from Mawsadang to Khlamulong has been estimated at the cost of Rs.8 lacs. He also said that the road will later be connected to Nongpsung and Sohiong via Tiehlong village. Mr. Lyngdoh also informed that soon a main bridge will be constructed at Niamsang river which will connect Sohpian village to Nongspung-Sohiong

Mr. Lyngdoh said that so far 40 roads have been constructed in Nonspung Constituency and the Mawsadang road will be of social and economic benefit to the people, adding that the farmers will now be able to transport their agricultural produces with greater convenience as the village will now be accessible by motor vehicles. He expressed hope that the road will further promote other economic activities in the area
