ORDER UNDER SECTOR 144 CRPC

The Sub Divisional Magistrate, Sohra Civil Sub Division, Sohra has promulgated an Order Under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting all limestone miners in using heavy machineries like JCBs, drillers, excavators, splitters, etc for mining within Sohbar and Wahlong Sirdarship area in particular and within local jurisdiction of Sohra Civil Sub Division in general. The Order comes into immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders. The order is necessitated following reports that some people are trying to engage heavy machineries like JCBs, excavators, etc, for extraction of limestone thereby trying to violate the traditional mode of mining and transportation as permitted by the Hon’ble High Court of Meghalaya. The attempt to use and engage heavy machineries to excavate limestone in the Wahlong and Sohbar areas not only violates the order of the Hon’ble High Court but also cause irreparable damage to the factors of environment and likely to pose threat to the human settlement in the long run if not prohibited.
