WATER TREATMENT PLANT INAUGURATED AT SOHRA

Shillong, December 7, 2010: The Meghalaya Minister for PHE etc., Mr. P Tynsong inaugurated the Water Treatment Plant at Khliehshnong, Sohra, East Khasi Hills District on December 6, 2010 in presence of Parliamentary Secretary of Tourism and local MLA, Dr. P W Khongjee, Chief Engineer PHE, Mr. H Prasad, Additional Chief Engineer PHE, Mrs. I Hooroo, officials of different government departments and the public.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Tynsong said that the long awaited dream of the people of the area has been fulfilled where 16 localities will be benefitted by this water supply scheme. He lauded the efforts of the officers and staff of the department for their continuing efforts in making people’s dreams comes true. He said that the people were lucky enough to be benefitted from this water supply scheme at 70 lpcd per capita per day. He added that 70 percent of the population can now have house water connection by paying Rs. 138/- monthly and 30 percent public taps will be placed in different localities of Sohra town. He hoped that the water supply scheme that was sanctioned at approximately Rs. 4.13 crores would cater to the needs of the populace. Stressing on water scarcity which has affected the people globally, he appealed to the residents of the area to utilize water in a proper way.

Earlier, Mr. Tynsong unveiled the plaque to mark the inauguration of the Water Treatment Plant.

Amongst others who spoke on the occasion were Dr. P W Khongjee, Parliamentary Secretary and Mr. F Syiem, Syiem of Sohra.

ESSAY COMPETITION HELD

Shillong, December 7, 2010: As part of the ongoing Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the Election Commission of India, the Deputy Commissioner (Election), Jaintia Hills District organized an Essay Competition on 6th December, 2010 at Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai on the topic, “The need for free fair peaceful and fearless Election” or “the role of money power in election process measures to curb the role of money power in election”. 51 students representing different schools and colleges of the District participates in the Essay Competition.
