WILLIAMNAGAR TOURIST LODGE INAUGURATED

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr Donkupar Roy has commissioned the newly constructed Tourist Lodge, Tamboading at Williamnagar, East Garo Hills District on December 11, 2008 in the presence of the Chairman State Planning Board, Mr P A Sangma, Tourism Minister, Mr Conrad K Sangma, local MLA of the area, Mr M N Sangma who is also the chairman of the function among other dignitaries.

The Tourist Lodge at Williamnagar was constructed at a total estimated cost of Rs 62.98 Lakhs out of which Rs.35 Lakhs is the Central share. The project was constructed by the Meghalaya Government Construction Corporation (MGCC). The Tourist Lodge has 6 rooms and 1 VIP suite.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Donkupar Roy said that East Garo Hills District in general and Williamnagar in particular is a fast developing area. He said the presence of the Tourist Lodge will provide a better place of stay for the Government officials touring the area and especially to the Tourist who are visiting the area. He also said that East Garo Hills have many beautiful tourist spots which tourists would love to visit and with the presence of the Tourist lodge it will facilitate the growth of the tourism industry in the District, he added.

Dr Roy also urges upon the officials of the Tourism Department and also the District Administration to work in close coordination so as to ensure that the Tourist Lodge is used judiciously and also maintained properly. He also informed that efforts are being made by the Government to provide better infrastructure for the Tourism sector in the State so as to facilitate the growth of the industry.
