TRAINING ON EMERGENCY HEALTH MANAGEMENT

A two-day district Level training on Emergency Health Management and first aid for Block first aid teams, organized by the Disaster Management (Revenue Department), Williamnagar and sponsored by the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) and European Commission was held in the Conference Room of the Circuit House, Williamnagar on December 19, 2006. Doctors, Nurses, Para Medical staff, officers and NGOs of respective Blocks of the District participated in the training.

The training was formally inaugurated by the Extra Assistant Commissioner of East Garo Hills, Williamnagar, Mr. Z. J. Sangma.

The training was imparted by the doctors from Civil Hospital, Williamnagar and the Assistant Project Disaster Management Officer, Mrs. K. Wanniang respectively.

MEETING ON IPPI

The District Task Force meeting on the Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) was held in the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner, East Garo Hills, Williamnagar on December 19, 2006.

The Deputy Commissioner, East Garo Hills, Williamnagar, Mr. F. Kharlyngdoh who presided the meeting emphasized that Pulse Polio Immunization should reach out to every child of the district especially in the rural areas bordering Assam and Bangladesh.

The first dose of Pulse Polio Immunization will be starting from January 8to10, 2007. The second dose has been scheduled from February 12, 2007.

The officers whom were present in the meeting included the District Medical and Health Officer, Williamnagar, Additional DMHO, District Social Welfare Officer, Extra Assistant Commissioner and the president of Mothers Federation, Williamnagar.

APEX STATE LEVEL COORDIANTION COMMITTEE CONSTITUTED

The Commissioner and Secretary, Government of Meghalaya, Home (Police) Department has informed that the Government of Meghalaya has constituted the Apex State Level Coordination Committee which will be headed by the Meghalaya Chief Secretary as the Chairman, the Meghalaya Director General of Police as Member Secretary and Meghalaya Principal Secretary, Home (Police) Department, Commissioner and Secretary, Health and Family Welfare and Commissioner and Secretary Home (Police) Department as its members.

The Committee will examine and recommend schemes for financial assistance for strengthening the enforcement capabilities of the State Police in combating illicit trafficking in narcotics drugs and psychotropic substances in the light of the guidelines for availing assistance under the head “Assistance to States/UTs” issued by the Narcotics Control Bureau, New Delhi.

ANTI NARCOTICS TASK FORCE CONSTITUTED

The Commissioner and Secretary, Government of Meghalaya, Home (Police) Department has informed that the Government of Meghalaya has constituted an Anti Narcotics Task Force, which will be headed by the Meghalaya Inspector of Police (CID) as the Chairman, Meghalaya Commissioner of Excise, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Western Range), Shillong, Deputy Inspector General of Police (ACB/Vig.), Shillong, Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Shillong, Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Jowai as its Members and the Assistant Inspector General of Police (Re-Orgn.) Shillong as the Member Secretary.

The Task Force will devise strategies for supply reduction and demand reduction of narcotics substances for the State of Meghalaya, formulate an action plan to address issues related to narcotics substances and include identification of regions which are sensitive to drug trafficking and strategies for action in those regions and should address both demand control and supply control strategies and to monitor the performance of the District achieving the desired objective of the Action Plan ad to finalize the annual performance reports which are to be submitted to Narcotics Control Bureau.

4TH COMPUTER LITERACY EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR SCHOOLS-2005

The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), Government of India has announced the 4th Computer literacy Excellence Award for Schools-2005, a Scheme for schools engaged in promoting Computer literacy and IT awareness in the State. All recognized schools in India, Government and Private, teaching Computers and Information Technology in their schools are eligible to compete for the award. Interested schools are requested to participate in this scheme and to submit the particulars in the prescribed proforma. A detailed instruction/proforma can be downloaded from DIT website http://www.mit.gov.in. The complete particulars may be sent directly to the office of the Commissioner & secretary, Government of Meghalaya, Information Technology Department, Shillong latest by January 25, 2007.

GOVERNOR VISITS SAHSNIANG

To get a first hand account of the grievances faced by the people residing in Sahsniang, Jaintia Hills, the Governor of Meghalaya, Mr. M. M Jacob visited Sahsniang yesterday, accompanied by the Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Hector Marwein, the Deputy Commissioner of Jaintia Hills, Mr. F. Kharkongor, SP of Jaintia Hills, Mr. H. Nongpluh and other dignitaries.

Speaking at the public meeting organized by the Joint Action Committee at Sahsniang Kamrup playground, Mr. Jacob emphasized on the need of infrastructural development including road connectivity, to the border villages, electricity and health facilities. Giving his assurance to take up the grievances of the people with concerned departments, Mr. Jacob added that the problems faced by the Block 1 and block 2 were major issues that needed to be death with immediately. Mr. Jacob also received a number of memoranda from local villagers and NGOs.

It may be mentioned that the Governor’s visit is the first of its kind by any Governor of this State to its remotest corner.
