DISTRICT POLICE TO CONDUCT RANDOM CHECK ON VEHICLE

Shillong, May 13, 2014: It has been brought to the notice of the district administration that motorists including bikers in the district do not adhere to certain Rules and Regulations as per the provisions of law which is illegal and clear violation of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Act 1989.

The unauthorized use of modified exhaust pipe, using multi toned horns creates noise pollution, the use of dazzling headlight bulbs affects the vision of the driver of the vehicle coming from the opposite direction, fixing of fancy number plates instead of high security registration plates, and pasting of tinted glass where the Supreme Court has banned its usage, has raised concern amongst the law abiding citizens and also poses danger to pedestrians and other road users. All these acts of omission and commission have created lawlessness on the road and attract penalties under various section of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.

In this connection the Office of the District Transport Officer in collaboration with the District Police, the District Administration will conduct random check anytime to contain these hazards and anyone found violating will be penalized as per provisions of the above legislation.
