NOMINATION FOR NATIONAL AWARDS FOR BRAVERY FOR CHILDREN 2012 INVITED

Shillong, June 14, 2012: The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, Shillong has informed that the Indian Council for Child Welfare, New Delhi has invited nominations for National Awards for bravery for Children, 2012. The main objective of the Scheme is to give due recognition to the children who performs acts of bravery with a view to inspire other children to follow their example. The deed should be an act of Spontaneous Selfless Service in the face of risk to life or threat of Physical injury and or an act of courage and daring against a Social evil, crime.

Detailed copy of recommendation of Award may be collected from the office of the General Secretary, Meghalaya State Council for Child Welfare, 209- Temple Road, Lower Lachumiere, Shillong – 793001. The last day for submission of the recommendation is 30th September, 2012.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS UNDER EAST KHASI HILLS DISTRICT

Shillong, June 14, 2012: The Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District has issued a notification in the interest of public safety and convenience imposing Traffic restrictions under the Laitumkhrah, Sadar, Madanrting and Lumdiengjri Sector.

The details impose Traffic restrictions under the areas mentioned below shall come into force with immediate effect.

PROHIBITION OF CHILD MARRIAGE ACT 2006

Shillong, June 14, 2012: The Department of Social Welfare, Government of Meghalaya is implementing the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. Under Section 16(1), the State has notified the District Social Welfare Officers of all the districts as Child Marriage Prohibition Officers to perform duties as specified under this Act.

The Act defines the meaning child as per section 2(a) of the Act, a ‘child’ means a person who, if a male, has not completed 21 years of age, and if a female has not completed 18 years of age.

Any person contravening the provisions of the Act is liable for punishment under section 9, 10 and 11 of the Act.

In case of any violation of the Act, contact the office of the District Social Welfare Officers of the concerned district.
