BHARAT NIRMAN CAMPAIGN HELD

A five day Bharat Nirman Campaign on the theme “Flagship programme of Central Government” organized by the Press Information Bureau, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India in association with the Directorate of Field Publicity, Song & Drama Division, Directorate of Advertising & Visual Publicity and Prasar Bharti was held at the ICAR, Auditorium, Umiam on September 14, 2006. Meghalaya Minister for Information & Public Relations, Mr. E D Marak grace the occasion as the chief guest. Mr. Marak was accompanied by the Meghalaya Chief Information Commissioner, Mr. G P Wahlang, Director of Information & Public Relations, Mr. P S Dkhar, Deputy Director General, (M&C), Mr. B Narzary and Bro. George, Principal, St. Francis Memorial School, Umbir, Ri Bhoi District.

In his speech, Mr. Marak lauded the effort of the Press Information Bureau for organizing the workshop for the benefit of the general people at large. He also informed that since the United Progressive Alliance took over the reign of Government at New Delhi in 2004, it has tried to initiate programmes to translate its promises to the people for socially just and inclusive growth. He further stated that certain ongoing programmes were consolidated or altered to increase their efficiency and certain new programmes were initiated in important areas of employment, health, education, rural infrastructure, urban renewal etc. The Right to Information Act, National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, the National Rural Health Mission, Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, the expanded Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and the National Cooked Mid-Day Meal programme are a few such of such initiatives, added Mr. Marak.

Mr. Marak further asserted that Meghalaya was of the first few States to have successfully implemented the RTI Act with effect from October 12, 2005 so to enable the citizens to get access to various kinds of information under the control of public authority, consistent with public interest and in order to promote openness, transparency and accountability in administration.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Meghalaya Chief Information Commissioner, Mr. G P Wahlang, Director of Information & Public Relations, Mr. P S Dkhar, Deputy Director General, (M&C), Mr. B Narzary and Bro. George, Principal, St. Francis Memorial School, Umbir, Ri Bhoi District.

The highlights of the day included songs presented by the Song & Drama Division, Government of India and Film shows by the Directorate of Field Publicity, Government of India.

J.N.V ADMISSION TEST 2007

The Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh has informed that the Jawarhar Navodaya Selection Test for the academic session 2006-07, would be conducted on February 11, 2007 at 6:30 a.m for admission to Class VI in Jawarhar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Niangbari, Ri Bhoi District. The Director, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Meghalaya, Shillong has informed that the following are the wholesale price (in quintals/bag/tin) and the retail price (in kg/litre) of essential commodities as on September 13, 2006

The wholesale price of Rice is Rs. 1100/1130 (Common), Rs. 1160/1220 (Fine) and Rs. 1300/1700 (Packet Parimal) while the retail price per kg is Rs. 12.00 (Common), Rs. 12.00/Rs.13.00 (Fine) and Rs. 14.00/Rs. 18.00 (Packet Parimal). The wholesale price of Atta is Rs. 1110/1120 and Maida is Rs. 1270/1280 and the retail price per kg of Atta is Rs. 13.00/14.00 and Maida is Rs. 15.00/Rs.16.00. While the wholesale price of Gramdal is Rs. 3100/Rs. 3300, the retail price per kg is Rs. 32.00/36.00 per kg. For Turdal, the wholesale price is Rs. 2850/3000 (Ahar), Rs. 2400/Rs. 3000 (Masur) and Rs. 3900/4400 (Moong), and the retail price per kg is Rs. 31.00/Rs. 34.00 (Arhar), Rs. 26.00/Rs. 32.00 (Masur) and Rs. 42.00/Rs. 50.00 (Moong). The wholesale price of Sugar is Rs. 2000/Rs. 2060 per quintal, the retail price is Rs. 22.00/Rs. 23.00 per kg. The wholesale price of Mustard Oil is Rs. 675/Rs. 690 per tin, the retail price is Rs. 57.00/Rs 72.00 per kg. The wholesale price of Vanaspati oil is Rs. 720/Rs. 820 per tin, the retail price is Rs. 54.00/Rs. 62.00 per kg. The wholesale price of Tea is Rs. 100/Rs. 150 (loose) and Rs. 130/Rs. 170 (packet), the retail price is Rs. 120.00/170.00 (loose) and Rs. 160.00/Rs. 196.00 (packed) per kg. The wholesale price of Potato is Rs. 500/Rs. 900 per bag, the retail price is Rs. 08.00/Rs. 12.00 per kg. The wholesale price of Onion is Rs. 700/Rs. 1000 per bag, the retail price is Rs. 08.00/Rs. 13.00 per kg. The wholesale price of Salt is Rs. 150/Rs. 190 (loose) and Rs. 160/Rs. 380 (packet), the retail price is Rs. 04.00/Rs. 05.00 per kg (loose) and Rs. 07.00/Rs. 09.00 (packet). The wholesale price of Gur is Rs. 1200/Rs. 1800, the retail price is Rs. 18.00/Rs 26.00 per kg and while the wholesale price of Milk (Toned milk) is Rs. 27.50 per litre, the retail price is Rs. 29.00 per litre.
