WORKSHOP ON ROLL OUT OF SSA MIS PORTAL FOR N.E. STATES HELD

Meghalaya Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Mr. M. Choudhury today the inaugurated the three day workshop on Roll Out of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) MIS Portal for North Eastern State at the conference hall of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Government of India, Shillong. The Workshop is being organized by the NIC in collaboration with the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development. The inaugural function was also attended by Meghalaya Parliamentary Secretary, Elementary Education, Ms. M Lyngdoh, Deputy Director General, NIC, Dr. G Bose, Project Director, SSA, Meghalaya, Mr. W Synrem, State Informatics Officer, NIC, Mr. T Dkhar and delegates from various States of the North East.

In his speech as the chief guest, Mr. Choudhury congratulated the NIC for organizing the workshop in providing information the people at large. He further said that information belongs to the general masses and they have every right to know about the various developmental schemes of the Government. He further stated that the SSA programme is a national flagship programme being implemented in all the Districts of the country since 2001, with an aim to provide useful and relevant elementary education for all children in the 6-14 age groups by 2010. Lamenting over the fact, that Meghalaya literacy is only 61.6 p.c. which is lower than the national level, Mr. Choudhury said that the Government is giving its best shot through the SSA programme to help the literacy rate grow in the State. In order to monitor all the funds that are sanctioned to the State by the Central Government are properly utilized, Mr. Choudhury informed that the Government will set up a Vigilance Commission to check that the public money are not spent un-necessarily. He also informed that the Education Department should have its own website so as to enable educational investors to invest in the State without having to come to Shillong.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Meghalaya Parliamentary Secretary, Elementary Education, Ms. M Lyngdoh, Deputy Director General, NIC, Dr. G Bose, Project Director, SSA, Meghalaya, Mr. W Synrem and State Informatics Officer, NIC, Mr. T Dkhar, while Scientist, NIC, Mrs. C Shadap proposed the vote of thanks.
