MASTER TRAINERS PROGRAMME ON NEW TEXT BOOK HELD

The inaugural function of the three days training programme of Master Trainers of KVS, NVS and CBSE affiliated independent schools programme on New Text Book based on the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), National Curriculum Framework 2005 was held at the North East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE), Nongrim Hills, Shillong. The chief guest on the occasion was Dr. R Bhattacharjee, Head of Department of Physics, Assam University.

In his speech, Dr. Bhattacharjee said that Science is a dynamic, expanding body of knowledge, covering ever new domains of experience, adding that in a progressive forward-looking society, science can play a truly liberating role in helping people escape from the vicious cycle of poverty, ignorance and superstitious. He further stated that the advance of science and technology have transformed traditional fields of work such as agriculture and industry which led to the emergence of wholly new fields of work. Dr. Bhattacharjee also said that people today faced an increasingly fast changing world where the most important skills are flexible, innovative and creativity.

Among others who spoke on the occasion were Dr. A Bhattacharjee, Dr. AC Borah, Dr. T Dey and Dr. R Sharma.

The main objective of the training programme is to train and familiarizes the teachers from various parts of the North Eastern States with the new methods, tools, techniques etc in the subject of Science and Mathematics.

PRICE OF ESSENTIAL COMMODITIES

The Additional Director, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Meghalaya, Shillong has informed that the following are the wholesale price (in quintals/bag/tin) and the retail price (in kg/litre) of essential commodities as on August 16, 2006.

The wholesale price of Rice is Rs. 1080/1140 (Common), Rs. 1100/1180 (Fine) and Rs. 1225/1700 (Packet Parimal) while the retail price per kg is Rs. 12.00 (Common), Rs. 11.50/Rs.12.00 (Fine) and Rs. 13.00/Rs. 18.00 (Packet Parimal). The wholesale price of Atta is Rs. 1000/1020 and Maida is Rs. 1180/1200 and the retail price per kg of Atta is Rs. 12.00/Rs 13.00 and Maida is Rs. 14.50/Rs. 15.00. While the wholesale price of Gramdal is Rs. 2900/Rs. 3100, the retail price per kg is Rs. 30.00/34.00 per kg. For Turdal, the wholesale price is Rs. 2875/3100 (Ahar), Rs. 2400/Rs. 3000 (Masur) and Rs. 3900/4700 (Moong), and the retail price per kg is Rs. 31.00/Rs. 34.00 (Arhar), Rs. 26.00/Rs. 32.00 (Masur) and Rs. 43.00/Rs. 54.00 (Moong). The wholesale price of Sugar is Rs. 2030/Rs. 2080 per quintal, the retail price is Rs. 22.00/Rs. 23.00 per kg. The wholesale price of Mustard Oil is Rs. 660/Rs. 690 per tin, the retail price is Rs. 57.00/Rs 72.00 per kg. The wholesale price of Vanaspati oil is Rs. 720/Rs. 840 per tin, the retail price is Rs. 54.00/Rs. 60.00 per kg. The wholesale price of Tea is Rs. 100/Rs. 150 (loose) and Rs. 130/Rs. 170 (packet), the retail price is Rs. 120.00/170.00 (loose) and Rs. 160.00/Rs. 196.00 (packed) per kg. The wholesale price of Potato is Rs. 500/Rs. 900 per bag, the retail price is Rs. 08.00/Rs. 12.00 per kg. The wholesale price of Onion is Rs. 600/Rs. 1000 per bag, the retail price is Rs. 08.00/Rs. 13.00 per kg. The wholesale price of Salt is Rs. 150/Rs. 190 (loose) and Rs. 160/Rs. 380 (packet), the retail price is Rs. 04.00/Rs. 05.00 per kg (loose) and Rs. 07.00/Rs. 09.00 (packet). The wholesale price of Gur is Rs. 1200/Rs. 1800, the retail price is Rs. 18.00/Rs 26.00 per kg and while the wholesale price of Milk (Toned milk) is Rs. 26.50 per litre, the retail price is Rs. 28.00 per litre.

CONSUMER COURTS IN MEGHALAYA

Aimed at providing better protection to the consumers and for settlement of consumer disputes under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, the Director, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Meghalaya, Shillong has informed that the Meghalaya State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has been set up in Shillong and the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum in all the District headquarters of the State. The Meghalaya State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission deals with consumer disputes where value ranges from above Rs. 20 lakhs to Rs. 1 crore while the District Forum deals with consumer disputes where value ranges from Re. 1 to Rs. 20 lakhs.

All Public Consumers may therefore file complaints with the above Consumer Courts in case disputes arise on account of defective goods or deficient services received by them on payment.

Roopkala Kendro, a Film and Social Communication Institution, under the Department of Information & Cultural Affairs, Government of West Bengal invites application for Development Communication, Direction, Motion Picture Photography, Editing, Sound Design and Animation Creation and Direction for the year 2006-08 from November 2006.
