NOTIFICATION

Shillong, September 17, 2012: The Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Sohra Civil Sub-Division has promulgated an order under section 144 Cr P C prohibiting the use of excavators for excavation/ extraction of boulders along the whole bank and river bed of Shella Umiam and Thariaghat River, prohibit extraction / excavation of large boulders which are deeply logged in the earth, prohibit the extraction of boulders within 10 meters along both the banks of Shella Umiam River at Patharghat, Kalatek, Umkhabaw areas, prohibit the extraction of boulders only along the bank, where the International border fencing is located at Thariaghat.

This has to be imposed due to the haphazard collection of boulders, through the use of excavators and heavy machinery from the river bank and deep river bed of the Shella Umiam river and Thariaghat, by exporters, in the process, causing serious environmental impact which may lead to environmental degradation adversely affecting the biodiversity and aquatic life.

This order shall come into force with immediate effect and remain in force till further order.

TRAINING FOR COMBINED HIGHER SECONDARY EXAMINATION

Shillong, September 17, 2012: The Coaching-cum Guidance Centre for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Shillong will be conducting 14 days training programme for scheduled castes and scheduled tribe candidates preparing to appear in the Combined Higher Secondary level (10 + 2) Examination 2012 to be conducted by Staff Selection Commission on 21st and 28th October 2012 respectively.

The 14 days training programme will commence on the 1st of October 2012 to 19th October 2012 and will cover subjects as prescribed in the syllabus by the Staff Selection Commission, namely, General Awareness, General Intelligence, and Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension.

Interested candidates may register their names at the office of the Coaching-cum-Guidance Centre for SC/ST, Shillong (Opposite St Margareth School, Laitumkrah, Shillong).

WORKSHOP ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT

Shillong, 17th September, 2012: A one day workshop on Disaster Management was organised on 15thSeptember, 2012 by the Dorbar Shnong Caroline colony, Jowai in collaboration with the office of the Deputy Commissioner (Disaster Management), West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai at Caroline Community hall, Jowai.

Dari Lyngdoh , Project Officer, Disaster Management, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai in his brief introductory speech said the need for conducting such workshop in this particular locality is due to past experience when a landslide washed away one house killing three of its family members in the year 2010, in order to keep watch of such calamities the Locality and the office of the Deputy Commissioner( Disaster management ) felt that there is a strong need in keeping the localities well knowledgeable about pre disaster preparation and also to give awareness to the locality about their responsibilities.

He called upon the people to take special interest and participate went this type of awareness programmes are organised in the locality or the district.

The Dorbar shnong had conducted Drawing competition for the children of the locality in the first session. In the second half of the day Dr.Helen J Uriah, the resource person lectured on the role of the community on first aid during disaster. The other topics were role of community in landslide prone areas and role of the community on search and rescue during disaster.

KNGC CELEBRATES ITS 46TH FOUNDATION DAY

Shillong, 17th September, 2012: On Saturday, 15th September, the Kiang Nangbah Government College staff and students commemorated its 46th foundation Day at the College Auditorium. The occasion was graced by Prof R.C Laloo, Education Minister, Government of Meghalaya as the Chief Guest and W.M Shullai Joint Director of Higher & Technical Education, Government of Meghalaya as the Guest of Honour. Ex. Principals’ and Rtd Principal of the College were the others present on this occasion.

It may be mentioned that the Kiang Nangbah Government College the then known as Jaintia Government College (JGC) was established in 15th September, 1967, with 6 teachers appointed in the departments of English, Economics, history, Political Science, Education & Khasi and (L) Prof D. Challam (Ma Dring) as the Principal in charged with 6 students (3 male and 3 female) in the P.U Arts and 12 students (5 male and 7 female ) in the 1styear T.D.C Arts (Pass) in the rented houses in the Mission Compound then to San Mala building at Iongpiah and the in year 1981 on 28th February it was permanently shifted to its present campus measuring about 33.18 acres.

Then on, the College has been growing from strength to strength with the increase of enrolment. Briefing the statistic of the college, the Principal B.N Lamare informed that this 2012-2013 there are altogether 14 Departments and a total of 2225 enrolments with 1475 in the Day Section and 753 Morning Section.

Speaking on the occassion,Prof. R.C Laloo congratulated the college on its accomplishment of 46th years and also a tribute to the patrons as well as the management of the college who have developed the college to its present stature. He added that during the period the college has achieved commendable progress and produce notable persons. Therefore he called upon the students to always be grateful to their teachers in order to be someone in life. Besides he called upon the students to be sincere, honest and hardworking.

Adding to the present scenario of education Prof. R.C Laloo informed that the Government will soon introduced Higher secondary (10+2) in the college Campus and the college will be dealing only with the degree course. He also informed that the foundation stone for the B.Ed College will soon be laid to make it easier for the aspiring students who wish to do their B.Ed.

Other highlights include short play, drama, songs and awards to the Sandra Rasdam for composing the College Anthem and Lumlangmiki Shylla a B.A 2nd Year student for the College Logo
