MEGHALAYA DAY CELEBRATION 2013

Shillong, January 18th, 2013: The 41st Meghalaya Day Celebration, 2013 will be celebrated at the U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong from 11.00 AM onwards. The Governor of Meghalaya, Mr. R S Mooshahary will grace the occasion as the chief guest.

The Meghalaya Day Excellence Award, the Meghalaya Day Run Award and the Meghalaya Police Award will be distributed on the day.

ORDER UNDER SECTION 144 CRPC IN WEST KHASI HILLS

Shillong, January 18, 2013: To ensure conduct of peaceful, free and fair poll during the General Election to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly which is scheduled to be held on February 23, 2013, the District Magistrate, West Khasi Hills District, has promulgated an Order under Section 144 CrPC banning carrying of licensed arms and other lethal weapons by any licensed holder or person within the District during the election period.

This order comes into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders.

MEDIA MONITORING AND CERTIFICATION COMMITTEE CONSTITUTED

Shillong, January 18, 2013: For the purpose of scrutiny, verification and certification of the materials for the media and publicity campaign including paid news by different political parties, organization, candidates and individuals, a Media Monitoring and Certification Committee (MMCC) is constituted under the Chairmanship of the District Election Officer and the Additional Deputy Commissioner (EL) as Vice Chairman. The members include the Extra Assistant Commissioner (EL), Field Publicity, AIR Nongstoin, DPRO Nongstoin as Member Secretary, journalist of the office of the DPRO, Nongstoin and one journalist as may be recommended by the Press Council of India.

UPDATION OF ELECTORAL ROLLS

Shillong, January 18, 2013: The District Elections Officer, West Khasi Hills District has informed that the Electoral Rolls for the 32-Nongstoin (ST), 33-Rambrai Jyrngam (ST) and 34-Mawshynrut (ST) Assembly Constituencies are currently in the process of continuous updation. All citizens of the District attaining 18 years of age as on 1.1.2013 but missed out the opportunity of being enrolled during the last Special Summary Revision, 2013 can get their names enrolled by applying to the concerned ERO in Form 6. They are required to enclose documents to prove their age and residence and two recent colour passport size photos. Citizens desiring to delete their entry due to death, shifting of place of residence or ineligibility can do so by filling Form 7 and those wanting to correct their particulars in the Electoral Rolls should fill in Form 8. Electors changing their place within the same Assembly Constituency can transpose their registration to the new place of residence by filling Form 8A.
