WATER SUPPLY SCHEME AT NONGKOHLEW INAUGURATED

Co-Chairman, Meghalaya Commission on Resource Mobilization, Mr. P T Sawkmie inaugurated the new Water Supply Scheme at Nongkohlew village, East Khasi Hills District on August 18, 2006. Mr. Sawkmie was accompanied by Mrs. B M Lyndem, Executive Engineer PHE, Mr. A Khongwir, SDO (Investigation), PHE and other officials of the PHE Department.

Speaking at the function, Mr. Sawkmie lauded the effort of the PHE department for taking initiative to bring the developmental work closer to the people. He also urged upon the people of the area to cooperate with the State Government for the overall development of the area and the State as whole. He opined that the water supply scheme will benefit the people residing in Nongkohlew and its adjoining areas. He also informed that the basketball court and the football ground at Nongkohlew village will also be inaugurated very soon for the benefit of the youth of the area.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Mrs. B M Lyndem, Executive Engineer PHE, Mr. A Khongwir, SDO (Investigation), PHE and the local headman.

BASE FOR NONGWAH TO NONGMADAN ROAD CONSTRUCTION LAID

Meghalaya Parliamentary Secretary for Social Welfare and Local MLA. Mr. J. A. Lyngdoh laid the base for the road construction from Nongwah to Nongmadan via Pamsanngut and Mawliehpoh at a function held at Pamsanngut near Tyrsad village on August 17, 2006. The function was also attended by the officials from the PWD besides the Sordar, Rangbah Shnong and local people of the areas.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Lyngdoh, said that road connectivity is the backbone of economic development and with the construction of this road the transportation problem will be eased and the people residing in the areas will be benefited. It will also enable the farmers to bring their produce to the markets and this in turn would uplift their economy and also that of the State. Maintaining that development is a continuing process, it is the responsibility of each and every citizen to join hands and cooperate with the government for the overall development of the area, he added.

Mr. Lyngdoh also urged the Sordar, Rangbah Shnong and the local residents to extend their cooperation to the PWD for the speedy completion of the road. He also informed that the 5 kms road from Nongwah to Nongmadan via Pamsanngut and Mawliehpoh and willl connect Mawphlang-Balat road at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.78 crore.

Among others who spoke were Mr. S. D. Chyrmang, SE, PWD (Roads) Eastern Circle, Mr. D. Langstang, E.E., Shillong South Division and Mr. D. Nongbet, Secretary Nongmadan. The function was chaired by Mr. M. S. Umdor, Sordar Pamsanngut.
