PUBLICATION OF PHOTO ELECTORAL ROLL

February 3, 2011: The Electoral Registration Officer of West Garo Hills District has informed that the list of amendment to the draft Photo Electoral Roll for 44-Raksamgre (ST) Assembly Constituency. 45-Tikrikilla (ST) Assembly Constituency and 49-Dadenggre (ST) Assembly Constituency has been prepared with reference to 1.1.2011 as qualifying date and in accordance with the Registration of Electors Rules 1960. The Electoral Roll is available for inspection at the office of the Electoral Registration Officer, Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division, West Garo Hills, during office hours.

CHIEF MINISTER CONVEYED HIS THANKS TO THE HONOURABLE PRIME MINISTER

Shillong, 3rd February, 2011: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma conveyed his thanks to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh and the Union Minister for Road Transport, Mr C P Joshi for being responsive to the needs of the State of Meghalaya and for having cleared the pending proposals pertaining to the State such as – Four Laning of Jorabad-Shillong Highway, Shillong – Nongstoin – Tura Road and the Shillong Bye Pass.

Dr Mukul Sangma in consultation with the Union Minister for Road Transport, Mr C P Joshi, requested the Prime Minister to lay the foundation stone for Shillong Bye Pass and the four laning of Jorabad – Shillong Highway which was agreed in principle by the Prime Minister. The Office of the Union Minister for Road Transport and the Chief Minister’s Office will pursue the matter with the Prime Minister’s Office in this regard.

Dr Mukul also took up the major road projects pending for sanction such as widening of the remaining part of Paikan – Tura – Dalu Road and widening of NH-44 from Shillong to Badarpur. The Government of India assured that the proposals submitted for further extension will be taken up in the next phase.

Other major Inter State roads under submission are Damra – Mendipathar – Bajengdoba and Betasing – Issakuri - Mankachar in Garo Hills, Pasyih – Garampani – Haflong in Jaintia Hills will be implemented soon.

Under NEC scheme also several new projects have been sanctioned for which the Chief Minister conveyed his gratitude to the DONER Minister. These roads include Ampati – Nogolpara – Phulbari – Tura road in Garo Hills, Mairang – Azra road in West Khasi Hills and Jowai – Nartiang – Kyndiap – Khanduli road in Jaintia Hills.

Dr Mukul Sangma also called upon Shri Vayallar Ravi, Union Minister for Civil Aviation on the 31st, January, 2011 to discuss matters relating to the development of civil aviation in the State. The Hon’ble Union Minister agreed to Meghalaya’s request for inauguration of the new terminal at ( Umroi Airport ), Shillong in the last week of February, 2011. The additional land acquired by the State Govt. for expansion of the airport is also proposed to be formerly handed over to the Airport Authority of India on that day. The Expansion of Tura Baljek Airport was also agreed for which Govt. of Meghalaya will make available requisite land. Operation of an additional flight from Umroi Aiport to Delhi via Kolkata was agreed upon in principle to facilitate better air connectivity between Shillong and the National Capital.

The Chief Minister also met External Affairs Minister, Mr S M Krishna and took up the matter regarding the Regional Passport Office in Shillong to cater to the increasing demand for issuance of Passport to the people of the State.
