NOTIFICATION

The Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Transport Department, has notified for general information of the public that all vehicles passing through toll plazas must be fitted with FASTag for cashless transaction at toll plazas w.e.f. 15.2.2021. This is in pursuance of the directions issued by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India and National Highways Authority of India.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF ROAD

The Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads), Sohra Division has informed that due to the ongoing construction activities along Sohbar-Tharia Road, it has become necessary to temporarily close the road for all types of vehicles from 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon and from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. However, for emergency purposes, vehicles can play via Ichamati-Bholaganj-Tharia Road.

ORDER UNDER SECTION 144 CRPC

It has been brought to the notice of the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills that many vehicle owners are using banned air horns and modified silencers in their vehicles thereby violating the NGT’s order and the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules. It has also been observed that the noise pollution in Shillong is increasing day by day particularly by unnecessary honking of motor vehicles.

Therefore, the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District has promulgated an Order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting high density air horns, sale of public audio systems without sound limiters, honking or blowing of horns in Silence Zones (area comprising not less than 100 meters around hospitals, educational institutions, courts, religious places), honking of horns during night time between 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM in residential areas except during public emergency and continuous honking of airhorns by garbage collection vehicles (under Section 179(1), 190(2) and 194F of the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act, 2019.

Any violation of the above direction or non-compliance by the general public shall be viewed seriously and action will be taken under Section 188 IPC.

CM CALLS ON SEVERAL MINISTERS IN DELHI

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Shri Conrad K. Sangma who is in Delhi, on Monday called on several union ministers, including Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla. Chief Minister’s called on Lok Sabha Speaker along with Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker, Shri Metbah Lyngdoh and Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Prestone Tynsong and apprised him of the ongoing construction of new Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang in Shillong. They also sought support and cooperation from the centre for completion of the Assembly building by 2022. In his meeting with Union Minister of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, who is also Minister In-charge of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Shri Hardeep Sing Puri, Chief Minister sought support for the urban housing for the poor. The Chief Minister also sought financial support from the Govt of India for improvement of infrastructure for New Shillong Township including the development of roads and other infrastructure. He also requested the Ministry’s support for the development of the aspiring Williamnagar Water Supply Scheme. In the presence of officials of the Airport Authority of India, proposals for the expansion of infrastructure for the Umroi Airport and activation of the Baljek Airport were also touched upon. The Chief Minister informed that the response from Shri Hardeep Sing Puri was positive and the Union Minister has requested details of all the issues brought forward by the Chief Minister. The meeting with the Union Minister was also attended by Transport Minister, Shri Sniawbhalang Dhar and Power Minister, Shri James P K Sangma.

In the meeting with Union Minister of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Chief Minister intimated him regarding the implementation and progress of the ambitious Jal Jeevan Mission project in Meghalaya. The Union Minister expressed his satisfaction in State’s efforts to execute the Mission and gave his suggestions to improve State’s target. Further, the Union Minister expressed that all support will be extended for the project and encouraged the State Government to pursue the project aggressively. Discussions were also held regarding the pending PMKSY micro-irrigation Schemes and Har Khet Ko Pani scheme including the release of funds and approvals for various projects proposed to the Ministry. Chief Minister also sought the Ministry's support for the State Government’s proposed initiative to rejuvenate Wah Umkhrah and Umsyrpi river. Union Minister spoke in support of the State Government’s plans and instructed officials present in the meeting to ensure that the projects see the light of day. Chief Minister was accompanied by Water Resources Minister, Shri Brolding Nongsiej in the meeting today.

He also called on Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister, Shri Kiren Rijiju along with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and apprised him of the ongoing construction of different sports infrastructure in the State. He sought for Ministry’s support to organize the proposed North East Youth Festival 2022 in Shillong, to commemorate the 50th year of Meghalaya’s Statehood. Union Minister has expressed his keen desire to support Government of Meghalaya in creating sporting infrastructure and has assured all help for hosting of the North East Youth Festival in Shillong.

Chief Minister also called on Union Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Shri Prakash Javadekar along with Environment Minister, Shri James P K. Sangma. They sought support and cooperation for various environment related projects in the State and have apprised the Union Minister on matters related to eco sensitive zones of Nokrek, Balpakram and Siju.
