CENTRE APPROVES SETTING OF POST GRADUATE AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE IN MEGHALAYA

Meghalaya Agriculture Minister, Mr. H.D.R. Lyngdoh, met the Union Agriculture Minister, Mr. Sharad Pawar at New Delhi on February 7, 2005.

In the meeting, Mr. Lyngdoh expressed gratitude to the Union Minister for the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on January 9, 2005 for the establishment of the College of Post Graduate Studies in Agriculture (CPGSA) at Umiam in Ri Bhoi District.

It may be recalled that Mr. Sharad Pawar had assured Mr. Lyngdoh on the setting up of the CPGSA earlier at the meeting of the Agriculture Marketing Reforms at Bangalore and also at another occasion in his office chamber at New Delhi.

Mr. Lyngdoh also invited Mr. Pawar for laying the foundation stone of the College of Post Graduate Studies in Agriculture sometime in the month of March 2005.

Incidentally, Mr. Pawar had fixed a meeting of the North East Agriculture & Horticulture Ministers Conference at Imphal around the same time and he would be visiting Shillong immediately after the Conference.

It is worth mentioning that the Chief Minister, Dr. D.D. Lapang, had also taken up the matter for the establishment of the College of Post Graduate Studies in Agriculture with the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and also with the Union Finance Minister, Mr. P. Chidambaram.

Meanwhile, the Agriculture Ministry Secretary, Ms. Radha Singh will also be visiting Shillong on February 14 to attend the Strawberry Festival being organized by the State Horticulture Department.

DRY DAY DECLARED ON FEBRUARY 23RD

The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong has informed that February 23, 2005 has been declared as dry day at greater Shillong only being the polling day to the Bye-Election to the 21-Mawprem (General) Assembly Constituency.

All liquor shops/IMFL shops/bars/hotels/clubs/C S shop/C S Bars/Outstill shops shall remain close on this day.

SECTION 144 Cr.P.C. PROMULGATED

The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong has promulgated an order under section 144 CrPC prohibit holding of any demonstration/rally/taking out procession, shouting of slogans, carrying of any lethal weapons and assembly of five or more persons within 200 metres radius of the Meghalaya Secretariat.

This order shall come into force with immediate effect and remain in force till further orders.
