Press Release No. 637/06

SINGLE WINDOW AGENCY RECONSTITUTED

With a view to facilitate and expedite various clearances and Government investments in the State, the Government of Meghalaya has reconstituted the Single Window Agency for all investments in the State. This was informed by the Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Industries Department.

The Agency will be headed by the Meghalaya Chief Minister as Chairman, the Meghalaya Chief Secretary as Vice-Chairman, the Additional Chief Secretary i/c Industries, Chairman MeSEB, Chairman, State Pollution Control Board, Principal Secretary, Revenue Department, Managing Director, MIDC and Principal Chief Conservator of Forest as Members and the Director of Industries as Member Secretary.

The terms of reference of the Committee is to facilitate the expeditious issue of all clearances/approvals required from the various departments and agencies of the State Government to any entrepreneur applying for the same and to assist them in obtaining clearances from other bodies/organizations in the State: to assist entrepreneurs in obtaining various clearances and approvals from the Central Government and its agencies: to take up with financial institutions/commercial banks wherever required, for expediting sanction and disbursement of loans/ working capital to prospective entrepreneurs: to facilitate and expedite on land matters for the setting up of industry: to facilitate local entrepreneurs in having an interface with industrial associations, Central Government Boards and authorities etc.: to attend to all enquiries from all prospective entrepreneurs relating to the law, procedure, practices, etc. governing investments in the State and to continuously review the various clearances and approvals required for investment in the State by entrepreneurs, with a view to simplify them as also to minimize procedural constraints to ensure flow of investments in the State.

SECTION 144 CRPC PROMULGATED

The District Magistrate, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting washing of vehicles, dumping of garbage and other solid waste on the road side, along the Umran river which is likely to cause health hazard to the residents of Nongpoh area and nearby villages.

This order comes into force with immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders.

NOTIFICATION

The Government of Meghalaya has appointed Mr. W.Synrem, O.S.D, Programme Implementation and Evaluation Department as Member Secretary, State Development Reforms Commission (SDRC) in lieu of Mr. B. Purkayastha, Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Printing and Stationery and Community and Rural Development Department and Member Secretary, State Development Reforms Commission with immediate effect.

The terms of reference of the Commission shall be to examine the parameters of ongoing developmental programmes, with a view to determine whether such programmes have been/are achieving the desired results. If not, to suggest suitable modifications thereof for ensuring their efficacy: to examine from time to time the need for undertaking new programmes for the accelerated development of the rural areas with particular emphasis on poverty alleviation and to suggest working parameters for achieving the goals and objectives of the programmes and any matters ancillary thereto.
