CONCESSIONAL RATE OF FARE FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITY

Shillong, November 22, 2011: The Regional Transport Authority, in its meeting held recently, has decided to allow concessional rate of fare to persons with disability at half the rate of the actual fare. Disabled persons who want to avail this opportunity should produce a certificate from the Director of Social Welfare, Meghalaya, Shillong or from the competent authority to the Secretary Regional Transport Authority, Shillong.

UNCLAIMED BODY LYING IN CIVIL HOSPITAL MORGUE

Shillong, November 22, 2011: The Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District has informed the general public that one Vijay Thakur (44), son of Ishwar Thakur, working as a Barber at Bishnupur, Shillong was admitted at Civil Hospital, Shillong due to illness and on 02.11.11 the said person expired. The dead body is still lying at Civil Hospital Morgue. Relatives of the deceased are requested to contact Laban PS at 0364-2223168, Shillong PCR at 0364-2222277 and Kench’s Trace BH at 0364-2224055.

SMB TO EVICT HAWKERS ETC.

Shillong, November 22, 2011: The Chief Executive Officer, Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) has informed that the meeting held between the Urban Affairs, Minister with the officials of various Department, representative of Syiem of Mylliem and the rangbah Shnongs and representatives of Mawkhar, Mission, Qualapatty, Paltan Bazar, Lumdiengjri, Lama Villa and Umsohsun has decided to prohibit the display of goods for sale on the public footpaths and roads from Sani Mandir, G S Road through Motphran area upto District Council Junction as the hawkers and street vendors have caused uncontrolled littering in the area which has become an eyesore to the public and unhealthy look to Iewduh, the biggest traditional market of the State.

In view of this the SMB will soon evict all hawkers from the area and prohibit display and sale of goods on public roads/footpaths in the area. Anyone found violating this prohibiton will be fined with Rs. 500/- and the goods will be confiscated.

DISTRIBUTION OF WORK ORDER TO 181 BENEFICIARIES UNDER IAY SCHEME

Shillong, November 22, 2011: Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya Dr D.D. Lapang handed over the work order of an amount of Rs. 48,500/- for construction of houses under IAY Scheme to the 181 beneficiaries of Nongpoh Constituency which is under Umling C&RD Block in the presence of Mr. P.S Kharkongngor, Block Development Officer, Umling C&RD Block, the Rangbah Shnong from various villages and beneficiaries. The programme was held at Sajer Community hall Nongpoh on November 21, 2011.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Lapang lauded the Office of the BDO Umling C&RD Block and his team for their untiring effort and self dedication in the implementation of the scheme for the benefit of people. He also said that the central government aimed at a goal to promote the standardization of living of the people below poverty line by providing them various developmental schemes like IAY, NREGS, etc He urged the recipients of the IAY scheme to cooperate with the government officials for monitoring of the scheme and in the meantime urged them to properly utilize the scheme for their prosperity.

The meeting was presided by Mr. C.B Syiem, EX- MDC & Chairman of Nongpoh Town Committee.
