WORLD TOURISM DAY TO BE CELEBRATED

Shillong, September 23, 2010: The Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation Ltd (MTDC) will celebrate World Tourism Day in the State on September 27, 2010 on the theme “Tourism & Biodiversity”. As part of the celebration, the Corporation is offering attractive discounts on room rents, food and beverages at Pinewood Hotel, Orchid Hotel and Orchid Lake Resort. Discounts will also be given on boating facilities at Ward’s Lake and Water Sports Complex and on conducted tours of MTDC Ltd. Besides these discounts, the MTDC is organizing tree plantation programmes and felicitations of its employees in Pinewood Hotel, Orchid Hotel and Orchid Lake Resort. Meghalaya Minister Tourism, Mrs. Ampareen Lyngdoh, Chairman MTDC, Mr. R V Lyngdoh, Vice Chairman MTDC, Mrs. E War and Parliamentary Secretary Tourism, Mr. P W Khongjee will grace the occasion in different establishment of the Corporation.

HEALTH DEPARTMENT LAUNCHES SERVICE VEHICLES TO BE ALLOTTED TO DIFFERENT DISTRICTS OF THE STATE

Shillong, 23 September, 2010: Shri Rowell Lyngdoh, Deputy Chief Minister i/c Health and Family Welfare, Government of Meghalaya launched 15 ambulances, 4 Star buses and 2 mini trucks for districts, nursing schools and cold chain division today the 23 september 2010 at the Health Complex, Red Hill Road, Laitumkhrah, Shillong. Organised by the Directorate of Health Service (MCH&FW) the vehicles seeks to provide service to the people of the State. Other dignitaries present in the occasion include, Shri. D. P. Wahlang, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary (H&FW)/MD,NRHM, Dr. A.S Kynjing, Director of Health Service (MI), Government of Meghalaya, Dr. A. K.Das, Director of Health service (MCH&FW), Government of Meghalaya, Shri. Randeep Sokhi, Area Manager, TATA Motors, Shillong, members and officials of the Health Department and others.

Speaking at the inaugural function Shri. Rowell Lyngdoh lauded the efforts of the Health Department in strengthening the health service. He further stated that the 15 ambulance which will be allotted to various Districts, 2 buses will be allotted to two nurses schools in the State. He said, “This will help the establishment and other institutions which are directly or indirectly link with the Health Department. He call upon the employees to make good use of the vehicles in the right way. Highlighting on the work culture he stated that a person should be appointed to check the smooth functioning and right utilization of the vehicles. He also call upon the CHC, PHC, Sub Centers to work for the welfare of the people in various parts of the State.

Speaking in the occasion as the Guest of Honour, Shri D.P Wahlang, stated that the ambulance should first and foremost be located at the public institutions like the PHC and CHC. He proposed the Tata Motors as part of their social responsibility to provide free maintenance for such a service as it serves the people and safe souls. He also expressed his appreciation to the Tata motors for the service rendered to the Health Department and to the people of Shillong as a whole.

The inaugural function was followed by the flagging off of the vehicles by the Chief Guest, Shri Rowell Lyngdoh, Deputy Chief Minister, Meghalaya.
