RECRUITMENT RALLY TO BE HELD

Shillong, November 25, 2010: The Army will conduct a recruitment rally at District Sports Stadium, Tura, West Garo Hills District, Meghalaya from December 4 to December 10, 2010 for all the district of Meghalaya and Morigaon, Nagaon and Sonitpur districts of Assam for enrolment of male candidates in Soldier General Duty, Soldier Clerk/Storekeeper Technical, Soldier Technical, Soldier Nursing Assistant, Soldier Tradesmen and re-enrolment of ex-servicemen for DSC.

Screening for candidate for all districts of Meghalaya has been scheduled on 4 & 5 December, 2010 and candidates from above three districts of Assam would be screened on 6 and7 December, 2010. All those aspiring for Soldier Clerk/Storekeeper Technical, Soldier Technical, Soldier Nursing Assistant, Soldier Tradesmen categories would be screened on December 8, 2010. The sons of serving soldiers, ex-servicemen, widows and war widows, NCC candidates, outstanding sportsmen and the enrolment of ex-servicemen for DSC has been scheduled on December 9, 2010.

The written examination for all selected candidates for all categories (except DSC) will be held on January 30, 2010 at Army School Senior Wing, Shillong. The age of candidates has to be 17 ½ years to 21 years for Soldier General Duty and 17 ½ to 23 years for Soldier Clerk/Storekeeper Technical, Soldier Nursing Assistant, Soldier Technical and Soldier tradesmen category. Minimum height acceptable for Soldier General duty, Soldier Clerk/Storekeeper Technical, and Soldier Tradesmen category is 160 cm whereas for Soldier Technical and Nursing Assistant is 157 cm.

The required educational qualification is minimum class VIII pass for ST and Class X pass for Non ST candidates for Soldier General Duty, class XII pass with Math and English with 40 percent in each subject and 50 percent in aggregate for Soldier Clerk/Storekeeper Technical Category, Class XII pass with PCM for Soldier Technical and Class XII pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with 50 percent in aggregate and minimum 40 percent in each subject for Soldier Nursing Assistant. For all tradesmen, the required qualification is minimum Class VIII pass.

DEBATE COMPETITION HELD AS PART OF THE DIAMOND JUBILEE OF ELECTION COMMISSION OF INDIA

Shillong, November 25, 2010: “A faithful, honest and righteous candidate can still triumph despite heavy odds”. This motion was being deliberated in the Inter College Debate Competition, organized by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District today, the 25th November, 2010 at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong. The competition was held as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebration of the Election Commission of India.

Mr. Priyanka K Sarma who spoke for the motion was declared the winner and received a cash award of Rs. 9000/-, a trophy and certificate while Miss Gladiola Nongrum was declared Runners Up and received a cash award of Rs. 6800/-, a trophy and certificate. The awards were distributed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Mrs. A Nikhla.

On the day, the results of the Quiz competition held on 16th November, 2010 was also declared whereby Miss Sheetal Poddar of Shillong College bagged the 1st prize, Mr. Wasim Khan of BBS College the 2nd prize and Miss Aijingshai Mawpat the 3rd prize. Apart from trophies and certificates, the winners also won cash awards of Rs. 9000/-, Rs. 6800/- and Rs. 4500/- respectively. The prizes were distributed by the Director NIFT, Mrs. W A M Booth.

As part of the programme, a documentary film on Election Commission of India titled “Mammoth Democratic Exercise” was also screened.

HEALTH MELA 2010 HELD IN MAWPHLANG PHC

Shillong, November 25, 2010: A two-day Health Mela 2010 organised by the District Medical and Health Officer com Member Secretary, District Health Society, East Khasi Hills, Shillong kick start today with an eventful inaugural function at Mawphlang PHC. Shri R. Lyngdoh, Deputy Chief Minister, Meghalaya host the event as Chief Guest and Shri J. A Lyngdoh, Minister I/C Social Welfare, Meghalaya as Guest of Honour. Other dignitaries include Dr. A.S Kynjing, Director of Health and Services (MI) cum Jt. Mission Director, NRHM, Meghalaya, Shri K. Khyriem, MDC, Shri L. Blah, MDC, Dr. D. Lyngdoh, Senior Medical Health Officer I/C Mawphlang PHC, East Khasi Hills, Shillong, Shri N. K Lyngdoh, Lyngdoh HIma Mawphlang, Government Doctors from PHCs and CHCs and Specialised Doctors form Ganesh Das Hospitals, Civil Hospital and even NEIGHRIHMS, Shillong and many more.

Speaking in the occasion Shri R Lyngdoh, extended his thanks to all PHCs and CHCs staff from across the state. He stated that this programme is conducted to create awareness among the people not on how to treat an illness but on how to prevent them from happening. he highlighted the various programmes and schemes that the government provides such as the NREGS that people can take advantage and benefit from them. He further call upon the people to extend their support to such Health Service and participate to further improve health habits.

Speaking in the occasion, Shri J Lyngdoh, lauded the service of the PHC of Mawphlang which has achieved much recognition among the people of nearby villages. However he also highlighted the requirement recruiting more doctors in the PHC. He further call upon the parents and students to participate I n such health programmes which the government provides through the NRHM.

The main objective of the Health Mela 2010 is to spread Health Awareness among the village people and for them to acquire their benefit from it. The health Mela will highlight preventive measures to the people.

Besides free check up and medication, quiz competition, Baby Show, Drawing competition and many others are also conducted to create awareness about health related issues among villagers.

MEGHALAYA PRESENTS CULTURAL EVENING AT NEW DELHI

New Delhi Nov 24, 2010: As a part of the ongoing India International Trade Fair, 2010 from November 14- 27 organised by the India Trade Promotion Organised at Pragati Maiidan, New Delhi, Meghalaya celebrated its state day today the 24th November, 2010 by organizing cultural programs at Lal Chowk Theatre, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Meghalaya Tourism Minister, Smt. Ampareen Lyngdoh proudly said that Meghalaya is a growing and dynamic state, rich in cultural heritage and blessed with natural beauty. In her speech she also encouraged people from different part of the country to visit and enjoy the pleasant climate of the State.

The cultural troupes from three different tribes of Meghalaya Khasi, Jaintia and Garo enthralled the audience with their lively and enthusiastic performances blending together to the beats of traditional musical instruments despite the unexpected inclement weather. The highlight of the day includes Wangala Dance, Shad Mastieh, Shad pliang, Shad rep and Garo modern dance which brought in cheers from the crowd.
