BUST OF LATE GANESH DAS UNVEILED

Shillong, March 26, 2012: The Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister incharge Health & Family Welfare, Mr. Rowell Lyngdoh unveiled the bust of (L) Ganesh Das Goenka at the premises of Ganesh Das Hospital on 26th March 2012.

In his speech, the deputy chief minister nostalgically referred to the beautiful scenery of the then Ganesh Das hospital located just adjacent to the Race course, tall pine trees and the crystal clear Wah Umkhrah. The hospital which was completed way back in 1935 is a joint venture between Lt. Jeevan Ram Goenka and the British. Lt Jeevan Ram Goenka donated his land and money for this hospital and later on dedicated it to his father Lt Ganesh Das Goenka and named as Ganesh Das Hospital.

The hospital specializing in women and child only has already been declared as a 330 bedded hospital and also been graded by Central Assessment of India, informed the chief guest. He also urged all the Doctors and Para-medical staff to endeavor dedicated service to the people for “Service to man is service to God”.

Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, M R Synrem lauded the vision and effort of the Goenka family towards the contribution of establishing the said hospital.

On this auspicious occasion, the members of Goenka family, J P Goenka and Arvind Goenka donated and handed over the key and documents of the Ambulance to the Medical Superintendent of Ganesh Das Hospital, Dr E Lyngskor.

Another highlight of the program is the launching of eleven (11) numbers of NRHM Ambulances by the Deputy Chief Minister to be distributed to all the respective districts.

Earlier in the function, Mr Shankar Lal Goenka, grandson of Ganesh Das Goenka welcome the gathering and Dr M Borthakur, Senior Specialist, Ganesh Das Hospital, read the message of Sayeedulah Nongrum, MLA and also proposed the vote of thanks.

INAUGURATION OF NEW SCHOOL BUILDING

Shillong, 26th March, 2012: Dr. D.D Lapang, Chief Advisor to the Government of Meghalaya inaugurated the school building of Ladthalaboh Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Jowai at Caroline locality on March, 24, 2012.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. D D Lapang expressed hoped that the building will help in improving the quality of education in the school. He called upon students to be dreamers with a vision, to put extra effort in their studies and to maintain the cleanliness of the building and its surroundings.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Shri. T. Dkhar, Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills District, Jowai, Shri. B. Mawlong, ADM, Jowai, Smt. K. Kyndiah, District School Education Officer, Jowai, Shri. F.L Lyngkhoi, Joint Controller of Examination MBOSE and Shri. L. Sumer CEM, JHADC.

The programme was chaired by Rev. N K Syngkli and vote of thanks was delivered by the Principal Thadlaboh Presbyterian Higher Secondary, Jowai, Smt. M. Khyriemmujat.

ASHA MEET HELD AT JOWAI

Shillong, 26th March, 2012: The District Medical & Health Officer, Jowai organised a meet for the ASHA Workers on March 24, 2012 at District Library, Jowai. This meet is conducted to let the ASHA workers interact with each other, to resolve the functional problems faced, and activities conducted by them.

Speaking at the inaugural function, the Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills District, Shri. T. Dkhar, lauded the noble works provide by the Asha workers. He said the Asha are the backbone to the village, they are the ones who will help bring down the infant mortality rate (IMR) and Maternal mortality rate (MMR) in the state.

Shri. A.S Nongbri, State Programme Manager, in his introductory speech, briefed on the roles and responsibilities of the Asha Workers. He said apart from creating awareness on health they are to work closely with the village and the sanitation committee to develop the village health plan.
