REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS

Along with the rest of the country, the 60th Republic Day was celebrated in all the District, Civil Sub-Divisional and Administrative Units’ Headquarters of the State.

At Shillong, the Meghalaya Governor Mr. Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary hoisted the National flag and took the Rashtriya salute at Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex, Polo. The marching contingents consist of the Para Military Personel of different services, Scouts and Guides and school students.

The ceremonial parade was followed by presentation of tableau from different governments agencies and cultural items. Meghalaya Day Award was given by the Governor to the recepients who excelled in the field of Sports. Literature, Social Service and Government Service.

As a tribute to (L) DSP, Raymond Diengdoh, the State Government organised a special programme at Madan Iewrynghep from 1.p.m onwards which was followed by a musical soiree.

At Jowai, the Meghalaya Minister for Information and Public Relations, Mr. Manas Chaudhuri unfurled the Tri-colour and took the Rashtriya salute of the 15 parade contingents comprising of school students in and around Jowai, Police Personel, Bharat Scouts and Guides and the Home Gaurds Pipe Band at the function held at Jrisalein Playground.

At Tura, the Chairman State Planning Board, Mr. P. A. Sangma unfurled the National flag and took the Rashtriya Salute at the main function held at MP Stadium, Dakoppgre where the contingents from District Enforcement Force (MLP), 2nd MLP Battalion Goeragre, NCC Cadets of Tura Government College and Scouts and Guides of local schools presented an impressive parade. Other highlights of the celebration include presentation of cultural programmes, tableau by various line departments and sports for children. Faciliation with certificates and cash award of Rs 2000/-for the Garo Hills based students who excelled in SSLC and HSLC examinations of MBOSE were handed over by Mr. P. A. Sangma, Miss Agatha K. Sangma,MP. and Mr. Thomas A. Sangma, MP.

At Nongpoh, the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi District, Mr. S F Khongwir unfurled the National Flag and took the salute at an impressive march past of nine contingents including Police, Guides and students of different schools held at the NSCA Mini Stadium Pahamsyiem, Nongpoh. Tableaux were also presented by different government departments highlighting their works and schemes. Other highlights of the day included songs and dance presented by students and prize distribution to the winners in the tableau presentation and march past which was bagged by PHE Department and SOS Children’s village respectively. The day ended with a friendly football match played between Officers XI and Staff XI.
