NATIONAL FELLOWSHIPS FOR RESEARCH STUDENTS

The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, under the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY), invites application from interested students to take up research careers in the field of Basic Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. As part of the programme, generous fellowships will be provided upto Ph.D level to the selected students. Under Basic Sciences, there upto 120 Fellowships, under Engineering and Medicine there are 25 Fellowships each.

Funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, the programme is administered by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, through the Society for Innovation and Development (SID, IISc Campus). Selections for Basic Sciences, Engineering and Medicine Streams will be carried out by IISc, IIT – Bombay, Mumbai and ICMR, New Delhi respectively.

ITBP INVITES APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF ASI (STENOGRAPHER)

The Directorate General, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, invites applications for the post of Asstt. Sub-Inspector (Stenographer) in the pay scale of Rs. 4000-100-6000. Candidates should be between 20 and 25 years of age as on 16-8-2005 (relaxable by 5 years in case of SC/ST and 3 years in case of OBC). The educational qualification required is 10+2 passed from a recognized Board or its equivalent with a minimum speed of 80 words per minute in English shorthand and 30 words per minute in English typing or minimum speed of 80 words per minute in Hindi shorthand and 25 words per minute in Hindi typing.

Applications in prescribed proforma duly filled along with relevant documents should reached the Deputy Inspector General, Kumaon ITBP, Ramakrishnapuri Bukhara Camp, PO - Chaubari, Distt - Bareilly (UP), Pin - 243001 on or before August 31, 2005.

VACANT POSTS IN ICAR

The Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH region, Umiam, Meghalaya invites applications from Indian Nationals for recruitment to the posts of Veterinary Officer, Publicity Assistant at the Institute Headquarters, Umiam and Driver at Mizoram Centre, Kolasib. Age limit for the post of Veterinary Officer is 35 years (maximum), for the post of Publicity Assistant and Driver is 30 years, relaxable as per rules for SC/ST/OBC, ex-servicemen, and physically handicapped.

Candidates applying for the post of Veterinary Officer should hold Master Degree in Veterinary Science with specialization in LPM/Animal Breeding from a recognized University, for Publicity Assistant, the required qualification is Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, Public Relations, Journalism or similar relevant fields from recognized University and for the post of Driver, the qualification required is Matriculation passed from a recognized Board. Candidates should also possess a valid and appropriate Driving licence from prescribed Government Authority.

WORKSHOP ON DEVELOPING NEED BASED CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMS IN NE REGION

Meghalaya Governor, Mr. M M Jacob inaugurated a Workshop on Developing Need Based Continuing Education Programs for North Eastern Region with reference to Meghalaya, held at the seminar hall of the North Eastern Hills University, Permanent Campus, Umshing, Shillong on July 27, 2005.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Mr. Jacob said that education is a process of human enlightenment and empowerment for achievement of better and high quality life, adding that the entire higher education system in India is in the process of transformation to cater to the need of the students in particular and the community in general. Mr. Jacob further said that the quality of population mainly depends upon the type of education system prevailing in our country.

Mr. Jacob also asserted that the swift changes that are taking places in the rural areas, called for knowledge to be continuously updated, adding that the initial education of the youth tends to become more protective. He further stated that the theme of the 21st century “learning life” would be essential for adapting to the evolving requirement of the labour market and for better mastery of the changing period and the rhythm of the individual existence.
