TOLL FREE HELPLINE NUMBER SET UP

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (A), Meghalaya, has informed the general public that a centralized Helpline Number has been set up, and any credible complaints/information with regard to activities of illegal mining and transportation of coal in the State of Meghalaya, the same may be shared though this Toll Free Number: 1800-345-3846.

The toll free number will be opened round the clock and the identity of the informer will be kept confidential.

CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING ON PACKAGING OF POTTERY ORGANISED

A Two day Capacity Building Training on Packaging of Pottery for the farmers of Larnai and Tyrshang village was organised by the office the District Industries Commerce and Industries Centre, Jowai at High winds, Hotel, Thadlaskein, West Jaintia Hills District. The two day training started off today the 25th March, 2022 and will be concluded tomorrow the 26th March, 2022. The Inauguration function was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Shri. P.K Boro as the Chief Guest and Deputy Director Commerce & Industries Centre, Shillong Meghalaya Shri. M L Wanshnong was the Guest of Honour. The Program is conducted by the Institute of Packaging Kolkatta Centre supported by Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industries, Government of India in Collaboration with Government of Meghalaya, Commerce & Industries department.

In his inaugural address Shri. P K Boro, Additional Deputy Commissioner said that indigenous artisan from Tyrshang and Larnai are fortunate enough to have and to be trained by the two experts who have come all the way from Mumbai and Kolkata with regards to Packaging. In due course of time the artisans will be able to sell these indigenous items and also earn profit from it without involving any middleman just like the Lakadong Turmeric, products where the farmers can now directly export their products to buyers. I feel proud today that the artisans from Tyrshang and Larnai till date are able to preserve their indigenous skills and with the initiative taken by the Commerce and Industries, Government of Meghalaya these things will move one step further and financially it will be very viable for them in due course of time, added Shri.PK Boro

Shri. Bidhan Das, Deputy Director & Branch Head, Indian Institute of Packaging, Kolkatta in his welcome address brief on the basic concept of packaging and its benefits.

The Programme aims to bring awareness and knowledge artisans on the packaging material available so as to enable them to be able to pack their products for safe transport to other parts of the country for increasing their sale value as well.

Chairing the programme General Manger District Commerce & Industries Centre, Jowai Shri. P. Toi informed that the programme organized is part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit ka Mahotsav” 75 years of India’s Independence.

HEALTH MELA UNDER DIENGIEI PHC ORGANIZED

The Office of the District Medical & Health Officer, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong organized a Health Mela under the aegis of National Health Mission (NHM) on the 25th March, 2022 from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM at St. Theresa Secondary School under Diengiei PHC wherein awareness programme and various health care services were provided during the Health Mela.

Shri. Samlin Malngiang, Hon’ble MLA, Sohiong Constituency was the Chief Guest at the Inaugural Function of the Health Mela in the presence of the Hon’ble MDC Sohiong Constituency Shri. S Mawlong as Guest of Honour. The inaugural function was chaired by the District MCH Officer, East Khasi Hills, Shillong Dr. E L Kharmutee. Other officials present were Dr. J B Ranee, Dy. Director, MACS, Dr. M Warshong, District Malaria Officer, EKH, Smt. I Slong, CDPO, Mawphlang ICDS project, Dr. L Syiemlieh, Medical & Health Officer, I/c Diengiei PHC, Shri. W Pamdhai, District Programme Manager, NHM, EKH, the Secretary of Diengiei Dorbar Area and other Health officials and staff from the Office of DMHO, Shillong, BPMU, Mylliem, Staff of Diengiei PHC, Headmen, ASHAs, AWWs and others.

The Chief Guest while addressing the gathering lauded the initiative of the health department for organising such programmes to provide awareness to the rural population for prevention of various diseases. He also stressed on the importance of Child Immunization and regular check-up of pregnant women during pregnancy and urged upon the parents to ensure that their child gets full immunization to get protection against various diseases. He appealed to all the people to come forward and utilise the services provided at Diengiei PHC.

The Guest of Honour while speaking stressed on teenage pregnancy and its ill-effects which is prevalent now and is a cause of concern for the society. He therefore appealed to all the students to concentrate on their studies so that they become successful in life.

Dr. K Slong Mynso, Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialist, Ganesh Govt. MCH Hospital, Shillong spoke about importance of Antenatal Care, Institutional deliveries & Family Planning. Dr. J B Ranee spoke about the HIV-AIDS and its prevalence. She also spoke about PMSMA day which is being conducted on the 9th of every month to provide medical check-up and counselling to pregnant women. Others who spoke on the occasion is the CDPO, Mawphlang ICDS project and Secretary of Diengiei Dorbar Area.

Specialist doctors from Civil Hospital and Ganesh Das Govt. MCH Hospital, Shillong (Medicine, Obs. & Gynae, Pediatrics, Dermatology, ENT, Orthopaedic, Eye) attended the Mela. Officials & Staffs from NHM, Vector borne disease control programme, District TB Office, MHIS, PMMVY etc., attended the programme to showcase and provided an awareness about the various health schemes and services. Officials from ICDS project also attended the Mela and provide an awareness different services under ICDS and about the Poshan Pakhwada. Child Immunization, Covid Vaccination, Lab test & investigation and Free medicine were provided during the Mela. Poster Competition on the theme “Importance of Immunization”, Quiz competition was conducted for the school students.
