TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR PARA LEGAL VOLUNTEERS

A one day training programme for Para Legal Volunteers organised by the District Legal Services Authority, East Khasi Hills District in collaboration with Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority was held today at Shillong Law College, Shillong. The training was attended by Para Legal Volunteers of the District and students of Shillong Law College.

The topics for the day-long training includes Legal Services Authority Act, 1987, Role and Responsibilities of Para Legal Volunteers and Introduction to NALSA Schemes, Basics of Criminal Law and Early Access to Justice and Pre Arrest, Arrest and Remand Stage, Child Rights and NALSA Effective Implementation of Poverty Alleviation Schemes, 2015, Government Schemes Welfare Schemes and Programmes for economically and socially backward sections of the society. The Resource persons are Smti D. Sohtun, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Shri T. T. M. Sangma, OSD, MSLSA, Ms. Iamonlang Syiem, Chairperson, SCPCR and Shri R. Wahlang, Executive Magistrate.

The programme ended with an interactive session on the Role of Para Legal Volunteers as intermediaries bridging the gap between the various government institutions and the common people and their roles in police station. The panelist includes Shri N.A.Khan, District and Session Judge, East Khasi Hills, Shri Vivek Syiem, SP (City), East Khasi Hills District and R. Wahlang, Executive Magistrate

CM INAUGURATES DIALYSIS UNIT IN TURA ON 26TH MARCH 2022

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, inaugurated the dialysis unit of the Department of Medicine of Civil Hospital, Tura, the much needed health facility, in the presence of West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, the doctors and other dignitaries on 26th March 2022.

The Chief Minister, while inaugurating the unit lamented that many of the patients had to travel to Guwahati and other cities for availing dialysis thereby spending a lot of money. However, the inauguration of this unit will now be of great relief to the patients with chronic and acute kidney disease, he informed. Informing that the Govt. Is committed to provide better health facilities to the people and is focusing on up-grading rural health centres, the Chief Minister said that more money had been allotted to the health sector in the current financial year to improve the health-care facilities in the state. He also informed that ultra-sound machine will be provided to Dalu CHC in two weeks’ time and online system of keeping records of the patients will soon be started.

West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, while speaking on the occasion, stressed on the need to start the trauma centre in Tura Civil Hospital and providing other health-care facilities in the rural areas too.

Delivering the key-note address, Nodal Officer, Dialysis Unit, Dr. Aaron KM Sangma, informed that even the people belonging to economically weaker sections of the society, will now be able to avail the facility at a meagre cost.

The Superintendent of Tura Civil Hospital, Dr. IC Marak, delivered the welcome address while Dr. Tema B Sangma, Senior Specialist, presided over the function. Dr. Shemida K Marak, Senior Specialist, proposed the vote of thanks on the occasion.
