NEW MEGHALAYA COOPERATIVE APEX BANK BRANCH INAUGURATED

Shillong, March 28, 2012: Meghalaya Urban Affairs Minister Smti. Ampareen Lyngdoh inaugurated the 45th branch of the Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank (MCAB) Ltd at Nongthymmai, Jingkieng today in the presence of Mr. Latiplang Kharkongor Local MDC, Mr. D. Vijay Kumar, Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Smti. R. Warjri, Chairperson of the MCAB, Mr. Mukul Das, Vice Chairman and Mr. DF War, Managing Director, among others.

In her inaugural address Smti. Lyngdoh lauded the effort of the MCAB management for expanding the banking service in different part of the State for catering the needs of the people. She also emphasizes that more new branches should be open especially in those area where there are no banking facilities.

She underlined the needs to create awareness among the people of the State especially in the rural areas to make people aware about the various facilities offered by the bank, adding that Bank play a fundamental role for the development of the rural areas by providing different banking services.

Others who spoke on the occasion include Mr. D. Vijay Kumar, Smti. R.Warjri, Mr. Mukul Das and Mr. D.F. War.

AWARENESS CAMPAIGN ON SOCIAL AUDIT

Shillong, March 28, 2012: The office of the Block Development Officer, Mawryngkneng C & RD Block organized an Awareness Campaign on Social Audit on March 27, 2012 at Salem Secondary School, Kynton-U-Mon. The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Mr. Sanjay Goyal in his speech as the Chief Guest appealed to all the stakeholders to take MGNREGS very seriously as this is the only scheme which is implemented under an Act.

Mr. B Rumnong, Course Director, SIRD, who was the resource person made presentations on the meaning and objective of Social Audit and Do’s and Don’ts of Social Audit – How to go about it. Resource persons from Rilum Foundation for Sustainable Development, Smit, also made a presentation on the previous year’s Social Audit Report.

Out of 60 VECs who are implementing MGNREGS in the Block, representatives and job card holders from 58 VECs took part in the programme.

RESULTS OF THE ON AIR SLOGAN COMPETITION

Shillong, March 28, 2012: The result of the On-air Slogan Competition on Voluntary Blood Donation 2012, organized by the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society, Shillong from 13th-22nd February, 2012 and which was aired on 93.5 Red FM was announced. The sole aim of the competition is to create awareness to the people of the State on safe and quality blood which will only be possible through voluntary blood donation.

W. Shanborlang Swer was declared the winner while Danny Mitchell Marbaniang and Don bagged the 2nd and 3rd position.

BASIN DEVELOPMENT WEEK TO BE OBSERVED

Shillong, March 28, 2012: In observance of Basin Development Week, a series of programmes will be organised by different Government departments from 2nd to 5th April 2012, under the aegis of the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Programme (IBDLP). It may be mentioned that the Integrated Basin Development Programme is a flagship programme of the State Government which aims at promoting optimum and effective development and utilization of basin resources of Meghalaya for ensuring livelihood security and inclusive growth in a sustainable framework.

The Basin Development Week will commence with the Conclave on Financial Inclusion organised by the Department of Finance, Government of Meghalaya and Meghalaya Basin Development Authority on April 2, 2012.The Meghalaya Governor, Shri. R S Mooshahary will inaugurate the Conclave. The participants for the Conclave will include National experts on financial inclusion and micro-financing, bankers, Government officials, NGOs. etc.

On the same day, a workshop on Climate Change Adaption will also be held. National and International experts on Climate Change Adaption, Officials of the State government and other stake holders will take part in the workshop.

On April 3, 2012, Focused Group Discussions on Value Chains and Market Access will be organised by the Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship. Officials from the departments of agriculture, horticulture, marketing KVIC, MBDA and other stake holders will take part in the one day programme.

With the objective of exposing participants to successful models of Infrastructure Development in the four key sectors of transports, Energy IT and Telecom, a workshop on Infrastructure Issues and the Way Forward will be organised by Meghalaya Basin Development Authority and Infrastructure Development and Finance Company Limited (IDFC). The Workshop will be held on April 4, 2012 and Infrastructure experts from IDFC, officials from key infrastructure department, contractors and other stake holders will take part.

The Basin Development Week will end with the Workshop on Governance Issues which will be organised by the Meghalaya Institute of Governance and the District Council Affairs Department on April 5, 2012. The Workshop which aims at orienting participants to the flagship programme and sensitizing them on the need for legislative support and governance reforms for effective implementation will see the participation of representatives from traditional governance structures, the Autonomous District Councils and other stake holders.

All the programmes will be held at the Yojana Bhavan Auditorium, Shillong.
