NOTIFICATION

Shillong, March 30, 2013: The Governor of Meghalaya has appointed Smti. M B Challam, Additional District and Sessions Judge of the Fast Track Court, Shillong as Additional Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District for trial of all offences punishable with death, imprisonment for life or imprisonment for a term of not less than 5 years under Indian Penal Code or under any Law for the time being applicable to the District and also to hear all Civil and Criminal Revisions, appeals from the decision of the Assistants to Deputy Commissioner within the said District and shall for the purpose aforesaid, exercise all the powers of the Deputy Commissioner within the said District.

NOTICE

Shillong, March 30, 2013: The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong has informed that as per Meghalaya cyber cafe rules 2012, cyber cafe operators should get their cafe registered and obtain a license from the office of the deputy commissioner. Accordingly all cyber cafe in the East Khasi Hills District are directed to visit the webside at hppt: //Meghalaya gov.in: 8443/meghportal/rules/dept/26 for details. They are also directed to apply for registration/issue of license within a period of one month w.e.f the date of issue of this notification. Application form can be collected from Municipal Branch of Deputy Commissioner, Office, Shillong.

CAVE TOURISM WORKSHOP AND TRAINING PROGRAMME HELD AT SIJU, SOUTH GARO HILLS

Shillong, March 30, 2013: The Meghalaya Tourism Department in collaboration with Meghalaya Adventures Association conducted a three days workshop cum training programme on cave tourism at Siju, South Garo Hills, from the 25th to 27th March 2013. 40 nos of participants from various NGOs, Tour Operators, like Samrakshan Trust, Integrated people for Tourism & Conservation, MRDS (LifCom) Baghmara, Siju Eco- Tourism Society, Air Rover, among others from different parts of Garo Hills actively took part in the workshop.

Well known cavers from Meghalaya, Mr Brian D Kharpran Daly of MAA and his team imparted training at Siju to the participants on the importance of caves as a natural habitat, its importance in research & tourism, its preservation and conservation. It is worth mentioning that

Siju cave is known as one of the most researched cave in the sub continent and is a habitat for various life forms including bats that number into their thousands.

IBDLP FIRST FISH POND INAUGURATED AT SOHIONG

Shillong, March 30, 2013: “Fish Farming in the State of Meghalaya have great potential particularly with the launching of the Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission which can provide economic, security and nutritional food to the people of the State”, said the Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma while inaugurating the first fish ponds constructed under the Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission at Mawtap village, Sohiong, East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya on 30.3.2013 in the presence of the G.A.D. Minister, Mr HDR Lyngdoh, Chief Secretary, Mr WMS Pariat, Principal Secretary, Fisheries, Mr KN Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Mr Sanjay Goyal, Director of Fisheries, Mrs IR Sangma among others.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mukul Sangma said that the inauguration of the Fish Ponds is a historic occasion in the efforts of the State Government to demonstrate its commitment towards empowerment of the people particularly those residing in the rural areas. He said that the Aquaculture Mission being one of the nine missions under the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Programme (IBDLP) has been structured to work in convergence with the other eight missions with sole objective of Economic Development of the State. He further added that through these missions many ancillary activities could be undertaken.

“The inauguration of the two fish ponds at Mawtap is a success story under the Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission which will inspire many people to partner with the State Government in furthering the objective and reach of the Mission”, stressed Dr Sangma. He also said that coupled with the technological interventions, interested fish farmers can always avail the support system and innovative ideas that the Department of Fisheries can provide. He urges upon the Fisheries Department officials to extend all necessary assistance to the fish farmers and encourage them to aggressively take up Aquaculture as one of the livelihood opportunities.

Minister, Mr HDR Lyngdoh, Chief Secretary, Mr WMS Pariat, Principal Secretary, Fisheries, Mr KN Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Mr Sanjay Goyal, Director of Fisheries, Mrs IR Sangma and Mr Shah Jehan June Risaw, one of the fish farmers at Mawtap.
