IMPACT WEEK MEGHALAYA 2022- FOSTERING ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE STATE OF MEGHALAYA

PRIME in partnership with the German Airline Lufthansa and its NGO-arm Help Alliance hosted the Impact Week Meghalaya 2022 “Train the Trainers” workshop on the 9th of April, 2022 at PRIME Startup Hub Shillong in order to enable academic institutes in the state to develop entrepreneurial mindsets in their students based on the Design Thinking methodology.

The Impact Week had trainers from the reputed Lufthansa Group and various other multinational organizations joining in from across the world. 25 selected faculty members from academic institutes around the state were trained in Design Thinking methodology that allows rapid ideation and prototyping of new ideas, business models and concepts.

The Workshop started with a warm welcome address by Mr. Flo Oberhofer, Program Head, PRIME, followed by an introductory session by the Impact Week team who were present physically and virtually. Faculty Members were divided into 4 teams, each with a mentor to discuss, work together and learn more about the Design Thinking concept through Ideation, Prototyping and Testing Phase.

The workshop ended with a Q and A session where all the queries of the faculty members were answered elaborately. Further, faculty members also had a chance to give their feedback and their wishes and hopes that the workshop continues in the future so that they become key designers to formulate ideas and help unlock the potentials within the student through the Impact Week.

The next phase in the Impact Week 2022 Meghalaya series will be a full-day event with 50plus students from across the state on 23rd April 2022 where they get to work on solving pressing issues of the state like Livelihood Creation, Pollution or Sustainable Tourism.

INAUGURAL FUNCTION OF SAKSHAM 2022 FOR THE STATE OF MEGHALAYA HELD AT SHILLONG

Saksham 2022 was formally launched in true spirit for the State of Meghalaya on 12th April 2022 at Shillong. Smt. Isawanda Laloo, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, Govt. of Meghalaya participated as Chief Guest and Shri. Winfred Warshong, Deputy Director at Commerce & Industries Deptt, Govt. of Meghalaya as the Guest of Honour in the Inaugural Function at Hotel Heiga VNS, Dhankheti, Shillong, Meghalaya.

The inaugural function was attended by over 150 people on the occasion. Shri. Swarbhanu Handique, State Level Coordinator for the Oil Industry and Manager(Retail Sales), IOCL, welcomed the audience and stressed upon the importance of petroleum conservation during his welcome address. He also outlined the activities which will be conducted during the course of Saksham 2022 all across the state of Meghalaya.

During the inaugural function, "Saksham Pledge" was taken in Hindi and English. Video Byte of Shri Hardeep Singh Puri Hon'ble Union Minister, Shri Rameswar Teli, Hon'ble Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Govt. of India and Mr. Sniawbhalang Dhar, Minster of Commerce and Industries Department, Fisheries Department, General Administration Department, Tourism Department, Urban Affairs Department, Municipal Administration Department, Govt. Of Meghalaya were played on the occasion.

While delivering her inaugural address, Smt. Isawanda Laloo, Deputy Commissioner highlighted the high dependence on import for meeting crude oil requirement of the country with the backdrop of ever-increasing energy demand. While thanking SLC - Meghalaya for inviting her to the inaugural function, she appealed to all concerned to actively participate in the programs under Saksham 2022 and transform this conservation campaign into our way of life.

The meeting concluded with vote of thanks followed by Group Talk competition among the College Students present in the inaugural function.

ADVISER TO CHIEF MINISTER INAUGURATES PROGRAMME FOR INPUT DISTRIBUTION FOR QUALITY GINGER PRODUCTION

The office of the District Horticulture Officer, West Garo Hills, organized a program for input distribution for quality ginger production under Ginger Mission, Spice Development Scheme 2022 – 2023, at Horti-Hub, Rongram, on 12 April, where the Adviser to the Chief Minister, Thomas A Sangma, accompanied by the Vice-Chairman of MCCL , Dabo M Marak, was the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Thomas highlighted various problems faced by the ginger farmers including lack of market linkages and reasonable prices and said that the Ginger Mission have been started by the Govt. with an aim to provide the necessary help to the ginger farmers in the state. He also stressed on the need to attract the high profile traders so that the farmers will be able to avail reasonable prices for ginger and urged the farmers to increase their production. The Chairman of Tura Municipal Board, JD Sangma, in his speech, highlighted the medicinal values of ginger and informed that the demand for ginger from Garo Hills is high in Dubai and China.

During the program, Assistant Director of Horticulture, West Garo Hills, Paulette A Sangma, while delivering the key-note address, informed that there are 1200 ginger farmers in the district who had taken up farming of 70 percent local and 30 percent improved varieties.

On the day, Joint Director of Agriculture, Garo Hills region, A Ch Momin, delivered the welcome address and the District Horticulture Officer, AWM Sangma, proposed the vote of thanks.
