JAN BHAGIDARI ON IMPACT OF PMGKAY HELD ON 20.04.2022

Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department (FCS and CA) today held the Jan Bhagidari Programme on Impact of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), as part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Campaign”, at Yojana Bhavan Auditorium, Main Secretariat, Shillong.

Shri James P K Sangma, Minister, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs while addressing the gathering virtually said that it is a privilege to be part of this celebration and praised the department along with all the stakeholders, the fair price shops and wholesale dealers for ensuring that food grain is allocated and distributed to the beneficiaries on a timely manner in spite of challenges and threat of Covid-19.

He informed that the PMGKAY is a food security welfare scheme which aims to feed the marginalized society of the country by providing free food grains. The scheme was first introduced from April to June 2020, during the stringent lockdown period in India and has been extended 6 times, the latest extension being March 2022 to September 2022. The scheme has been a boon to the people during the Covid-19 pandemic, keeping the concern and sensitivity towards the poor and marginalized, it has mitigated the hardship faced and ensured food security to all.

Others who were present include Dr Shakil P Ahammed, Principal Secretary, FCS and CA, Shri P Bakshi Commissioner and Secretary, FCS and CA, Smti I Laloo, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills among others.

33RD DISTRICT LEVEL INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION HELD IN JOWAI

The Two day 33rd District Level Industrial Exhibition organised by the Office of the General Manager District Commerce & Industries Centre, Jowai was today inaugurated by Local MLA and Chairman MCCL Shri. Wailadmiki Shylla at Ladthadlaboh Indoor Sports Hall, Ladthadlaboh Playground Madan Dai Masi, Jowai.

The exhibition saw around 26 stalls participated by the government Departments of the District like the District Sericulture, Handloom, AH & Veterinary, Meghalaya Basin Development Authority, Jowai, Senior Dairy, Social Welfare, Self help group and Societies from the District as well from other parts of the District.

Speaking at the inaugural function the Local MLA lauded the department for organizing such an exhibition creating a platform that will boost the spirit of the local artisans, craftsmen, and entrepreneurs to further enhance their productivity besides helping them to exhibit and sell their products. He at the same time encouraged the entrepreneurs and the youths to take advantage of the schemes available at the District Commerce and Industrial Department..

Earlier, District Manager Shri. P.Toi in his keynote address said that this exhibition is part of celebrating Meghalaya’s 50th years of statehood. He highlighted on the various Schemes and programmes the Department avails that include the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) a centrally sponsored Scheme, the Homestay scheme.

Functional Manager Smt. S E Kharpran, Shri. C.Sutnga and Assistant Director of Cottage Shri. FG Syngkon were among the others who spoke on the occasion.
