AQUAFEST ORGANIZED AT MEMO LAKE, BOLKINGGRE ON 27.04.2022

As part of the celebration of 50 years of statehood, the District Administration, East Garo Hills in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, East Garo Hills organized an “Aquafest” at Memo Lake, Bolkinggre today the 27th April 2022.

Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Shri. Marcuise N Marak, Government Chip Whip and local MLA lauded the organizers for the initiative taken to promote the production of the fish through aqua fest, at the same time encouraging the fish farmers to take advantage of the benefits received from the aqua culture mission by taking a step ahead to increase fish production in the district. Highlighting on the preservation and protection of catchment areas the chief guest informed that the government has launched payment for ecosystem services in order to sustain the water bodies in the state. The local MLAurged the gathering not to use pesticides, gelatine sticks for catching of fish from the rivers and streams instead ask to use scientific approach to restore the environment to its pristine glory.

Shri. Swapnil Tembe, Deputy Commissioner, East Garo Hills in his brief speech informed that the District required 1500 MT fish whereas the fish production is only 1300 MT. He called upon the gathering to come forward and avail the schemes under aqua culture mission in order to make sufficient fish production in the district.

Smt. S A Sangma, Superintendent of fisheries in her key note address informed that there are 2382 ponds , 9 fish sanctuary, 8 community pond, 3 hatchery and 2 fish feed mill functioning under blue revolution in East Garo hills.
