WORKSHOP ON COMPUTERISATION OF VAT

A workshop on Computerization of Value Added Tax (VAT) was today inaugurated by the Principal Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Finance Taxation, etc Departments, Mr. B. K. Dev Varma at the Conference Hall of the National Informatics Centre, Shillong, Chaired by the Commissioner of Taxes, Mr. J. Lyngdoh. The workshop was attended by officials of State Taxation department.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Varma informed the gathering that since the implementation of VAT in Meghalaya almost a year ago, there has been a marked increase in the revenue of the State and this will go a long way in taking care of expenditures incurred by the State. In light of the fact that specialized computer software has been developed for computerization of VAT, Mr. Verma urged upon the participants to imbibe as much knowledge as possible from the workshop, so as to ensure that the transition from the manual system of working to computerized system is a smooth and effective one.

Earlier, Mr. J. Lyngdoh informed that the main aim of the workshop was to educate the participants on the importance of the Modules developed for the computerization of VAT. By doing so, the system will ensure of a work atmosphere wherein physical contact between the taxman and dealer is minimized while transparency and efficiency is maximized. Further, Mr. Lyngdoh urged upon the participants to come out of their comfort zones and move with the changing wheels of time.
