DISTRICT LEVEL INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION HELD AT KHLIEHRIAT ON 12.05.2022

The two-days 5th District Level Industrial Exhibition organized by the office of the General Manager, District Commerce and Industries Centre, East Jaintia Hills District was today inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, Shri. A. Baranwal, IAS, at Wika Complex Compound, Khliehriat West. The Programme was also attended by Shri. S. Pasweth, General Manager, District Commerce & Industries Centre, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri. G. Pala, Functional Manager, District Commerce and Industries Centre, Smt. M. Shylla, District Agriculture Officer, Smt. O. Suchiang, District Horticulture Officer, Shri. B. Nongpluh, District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer, Shri. R. Hinge, District Transport Officer, Shri. L. Bareh, Local Headman Khliehriat West, among others.

Addressing the gathering at the inaugural function, Shri. A. Baranwal, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat stated that people of district are very enterprising and the number of industries, businesses, and start-ups should also increase in the district. He also said that such exhibitions provide an opportunity to interact with the entrepreneurs, to understand the various activities carried out across the district and the problems faced by the business owners, and start-up entrepreneurs so that their problems can be solved collectively with the help and assistance of the District Administration and the various line departments of the district.

The Deputy Commissioner also stressed on the need to conduct an awareness campaign on the various schemes provided by the District Commerce and Industries Centre (DCIC) so that the public can take advantage of the schemes. He also informed that the State and Central Government is providing business capital through different mechanisms like the PMEGP loan, PRIME through which the Government of Meghalaya is providing a business grant of Rs. 5 Lakhs, and also the intervention by the Meghalaya Basin Management Authority.

Shri. S. Pasweth, General Manager, District Commerce & Industries Centre, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat in his speech said that the 5th District Level Industrial Exhibition is part of celebrating Meghalaya’s 50th years of Statehood. He also stated that the exhibition was organized with the aim to look into the well-being of the Units/Enterprise which have been registered under the UDYAM/UAM and to also select the Unit/ Enterprise to represent the District in the State and National Level Exhibition.

He also highlighted the various schemes under the District Commerce & Industries Centre(DCIC) that include the Master- Craftsmen Training which aims to retain the traditional art skills of the people, Training Inside and Outside the state which sponsors local youth to undergo vocational training both inside and outside the state to create skilled manpower and the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) for generation of employment through the establishment of micro-enterprises in the district.

The exhibition had 24 stalls for display and sale of a wide range of products produced by the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Cooperative Societies of the Jaintia Hills such as handicraft products and items made from bamboo and cane, handloom products, household products, tailoring and embroidery products, processed food, honey, flower, fruits, juice and spices. The exhibition also saw the participation of Government departments of the District like the Office of the Superintendent of Fisheries, East Jaintia Hills District, District Agriculture Officer & District Horticulture Officer, District Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Officer, and the District Handloom Office.

Others who also spoke during the function were Shri. G. Pala, Functional Manager, DCIC, East Jaintia Hills District and Shri. P. Suja, FM, Functional Manager, DCIC, East Jaintia Hills District.

TNAI WEST JAINTIA HILLS UNIT CELEBRATE NURSES DAY AT MYNSO ON 12.05.2022

Commemorating the birth anniversary of the founder of Nursing, Florence Nightingale the Trained Nurses Association of India, West Jaintia Hill Unit today celebrated the day at Mynso -A Community Hall on the theme- “Nurses- a Voice to lead-Invest in Nursing and respect rights to secure global health”. Dr. B. Langbang, Block Development Officer, Laskein C&RD Block grace the occasion as the Chief Guest and Dr. D. Nongpluh, Superintendent of Dr. Norman Tunnel Hospital, Jowai as the Guest of Honour. The celebration began with lighting of the Lamp by the Chief Guest followed by the Nurses Anthem lead by Smt. B. Tang, Principal Dr. Norman Tunnel Hospital School of Nursing, Jowai.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. B. Langbang extended his heartfelt gratitude and applauded the nurses’ fraternity for their selfless services and dedication towards their patient. He appreciated the nurses for choosing the profession though knowing that it is a tough and selfless job. He added, “According to my experience especially during COVID-19, I found that the nurses are the ones closest to the patients, they take care of the patients with love and care, forgetting themselves.” He encouraged them to continue the good work and to carry on their services with a pleasant smile. He also wished them success in life.

Lauding the Nurses fraternity for the service they provide towards their patient Dr. D. Nongpluh, reminded them that we live in a century of high - tech but nevertheless we must not forget what God has given us and to always remember that ‘God has given you a voice and a tender heart.’ So always be compassionate, loving and be available for the your patients’. She quoted a Bible verse from the Proverb 16- 24 ‘Kinds words are like honey, sweet to the Soul and Healthy for the Body” and reminded them to be generous and gentle in their words and to continue to be the voice that leads and guides human health.

Smt. Sashika Lato, Staff Nurse Iooksi PHC in her keynote address highlighted the importance of the theme.

The Trained Association had also presented mementos of appreciation to the Rtd Nurses for the service they rendered.

Earlier, the welcomed address was offered by Smt. Barbara Rymbai, Staff Nurse DM&HO, Jowai. The function was chaired by Smt. Suzy Lewis Chen, Vice Principal Dr. Norman Tunnel Hospital School of Nursing, Jowai and Smt. Nellie Bonnei Pariat, Staff Nurse Dr. Norman Tunnel Hospital, Jowai the vote of thanks.

DISTRICT LEVEL INTER SCHOOL ATHLETICS MEET HELD AT TURA

A Two Day District Level Inter School Athletics Meet was held at Ballonggre Field near Tura where students from different schools of the town participated with ardent fervor. The Meet was organized after a gap of two years by District Sports Office, Tura as part of the Khelo India 2022, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and 50 Years of Statehood of Meghalaya.

The West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh graced the inaugural function of the Athletics Meet on the first day while Retired Assistant Director, Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Shillong Jasper P Marak graced the concluding function.

Speaking during the concluding function, J P Marak congratulated the Winners of various competitions held including the young athletes for their active participation. Stating that there is no short cut to success, he said that the winners of competitions must have practiced hard which had brought laurels to their respective schools and as individuals too. Further, he also thanked the Government of Meghalaya for releasing the Covid-19 restrictions and for allowing to organize this event for the interest of the students. Informing that Athletics is considered as mother of all sports, he said that these young athletes can participate in any Track and Field discipline and encourage the budding athletes to excel in their field of interest in future.

Meanwhile, the District Sports Officer, Tura Saljagring M Marak informed that various track and field events was organized which have been divided into different categories such as , under 14, 16, 18 for both Boys and Girls. Monfort Secondary School, Dilnegre Bolchugre was adjudged the Overall Team Champion while Monfort Centre for Education, Tura was the Runners-Up in the recently concluded Athletic Meet.

The Senior Medical Officer, Tura Dr Roger Marak, Teachers, parents, students, officials and staff of District Sports office, Tura and people of the surrounding area attended the programme.
