EAT RIGHT MELA HELD ON 19.05.2022

The Office of the Commissioner of Food Safety, Meghalaya today organised the Eat Right Mela at the premises of the State Central Library, Shillong. Shri Sampath Kumar, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare and Commissioner (Food Safety) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Delivering his inaugural address, Shri Sampath Kumar said that health in India is a state subject and he informed that Meghalaya had launched a state health policy by deliberating with various stakeholders continuously on a weekly basis. This policy has 3 essential factors, preventive or promoting health, curative and enabling. He also informed that 95 percent of chronic diseases in the state is due to our eating habits, hence these types of mela is necessary to sensitize the general public of the benefits of eating right or eating healthy, he added. He also urged the gathering to have annual medical check-ups in order to ensure a healthy life. He further stressed on the need for physical exercises in order to tackle illnesses and praised the office for conducting a walkathon which will go a long way in motivating the public to engage themselves in promoting physical activities in their daily life.

Earlier, Chief Secretary, Smti R. V. Suchiang flagged off the Walkathon from Madan Iewrynghep which culminated at the premises of the State Central Library, Shillong. Others who spoke during the programme include Smti R. M. Kurbah, Joint Commissioner (Food Safety), Smti Payal Maji, Assistant Director, FSSAI, Smti D. B. S. Mukhim, Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety among others.

REVIEW OF CENTRALLY SPONSORED SCHEMES BY SMT AGATHA K SANGMA MP LOK SABHA AT BAGHMARA ON 19.05.2022

The Member of Parliament to Tura Legislative Assembly Constituency Smt Agatha K Sangma visited South Garo Hills District today and reviewed the centrally sponsored schemes today at District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee Meeting at NIC conference Hall Baghmara.

The District Heads from various line departments discuss and raised issues in front of the Member of Parliament. They also presented the ongoing and completed centrally sponsored schemes such as Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Awass Yojana, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gramin Kausallya Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture, Swatch Bharat Mission, National Rural Drinking Water program, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee yojana, Deen Dayal Upanhya, Gram Jyoti Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Kamal Vikas yojana, Road safety, National Health Mission, PMKSY and IMGSY, SSS, ICDS, ICPS, Mid Day Meal Scheme, MP Local Area Development Scheme, Food Safety Act, PMEGP, NRLM etc.

DISTRICT LEVEL INTER SCHOOL ATHLETIC MEET CONCLUDES AT AMPATI ON 19.05.2022

The two-days District level Inter-School Athletic Meet organized by the District Sports Office, Ampati at Ampati Field, witnessed enthusiastic participation from hundreds of students from schools across the district. The Athletic Meet categorised into under-14, under-16 and under-18 for both boys and Girls, was organized as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Celebration of 50 years of Meghalaya's Statehood and also Khelo India 2022. Additional Deputy Commissioner, AVD Shira presided over the function as the Chief Guest on the opening day of the event, in the presence of the District Sports Officer, Saljagring Marak and few other Officers of the district, while the Extra Assistant Commissioners, L D Sangma and S R Marak presided over the function as the Chief Guests on the closing day.

Overall Champions title was awarded to St. Claret Higher Secondary School, Ampati, who also secured the titles Team Champions in both under 14 and under 16 boys categories, while Soudarion Higher Secondary School secured the runners up Champions title and Team Champion in under 16 girls category.Mother's Union Secondary School was awarded Team Champions in both under 18 boys and girls categories while Simsang Bokmagre School managed to secure the title of Team Champions in under 14 girls category.Best Athlete awardees under different categories are st Claret Higher Secondary School's Rakbathjohn S Sangma ( U-14 boys) , Chimasamary Ch. Sangma (U-14 girls) and Grimbirthson B Marak (U-16 boys), Leviansha D Marak of Saudarion School (U-16 girls), Gracewin Ch. Marak of Mother's Union Secondary School (U-18 boys) and Chibalsri A Sangma of Nogorpara Secondary School (U-18 girls).
