SEND OFF CEREMONY TO THE MEGHALAYA CONTINGENT FOR KHELO INDIA YOUTH GAMES ON 27.05.2022

Meghalaya Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Shri Banteidor Lyngdoh today accorded a warm sent off to the Meghalaya contingent which will be participating in the Khelo India Youth Games, which will take place in Panchkula, Haryana from 3rd to 14th June, 2022.

The programme organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya was held at SAI, Football Ground, NEHU Campus, Shillong.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Banteidor Lyngdoh stated that as athletes representing the state, it is important to maintain discipline, dedication, to perform well and bring laurels to the state. He also stated that Meghalaya has already implemented the sport policy which will be beneficial for the young athletes and budding talents of the state. He expressed his gratitude to the Sports Associations, the Coaches and the supporting staff for honing and nurturing the athletes for these types of national events.

The Minister also shared words of encouragement for the athletes of Meghalaya contingent and reiterated the importance of team spirit and a fighting spirit to achieve their goals.

The Meghalaya contingent comprises of 32 athletes and 10 officials who will be competing in Football, Athletics, Judo, Swimming and Boxing. The team is led by Smti Darlene M Khonglam as the Chef De Mission.

INAUGURATION OF RENOVATION OF JOWAI WATER SUPPLY SCHEME AND LAYING FOUNDATION OF WATER SUPPLY SCHEME

The Renovation of Jowai Water Supply Scheme which was based in the year 2004 was today inaugurated by the Minister of Public Health Engineering Shri. R.L Tongkhar. He also unveiled the foundation for Mihmyntdu Water Supply Scheme and Khliehtyrshi Combined Water Supply Scheme in the presence of the Minister of Urban Affairs Department and the Local MLA Shri. Wailadmiki Shylla at the Treatment Plant Complex , PHE, Urkhla, Jowai, initiated by the Public Health Engineering Department under the Central government flagship Scheme Jal Jeevan Mission.

The scheme was conceptualized by the Government of Meghalaya and funded by the Ministry of Doner under NLCPR in the year 2002 at an amount of Rs. 1541.13 lakh

The PHE Minister R.L Tongkhar lauded the effort and dedication of the PHE Department. He informed that the government has sanctioned many schemes through this department to ensure that every household has access to clean drinking water. He further informed that around 5.32 lakh households out of 5.88 lakhs have benefited from the JMM scheme. The remaining 40 thousand households that have not yet been addressed will be taken soon, said the minister.

The Mihmyntdu water supply Scheme is estimated at the cost of Rs. 32 crore approximately that will cater to around 1631 households and 17 schools and for Khliehtyrshi Combined Water Supply Scheme the estimated cost is Rs. 24 crore approximately.

Executive Engineer PHE, Electrical Division, Jowai gave an outline on Renovation of Jowai Water Supply Scheme stating that the Renovation of Jowai Water Supply was to cater to the need of the town for the next 30 years i.e., upto 2034, by tapping the stream source of river Umngot as the river is in a position to meet the water requirement of the town for the next 30 years. The River Umngot is one of the 3 major rivers that originate from Shillong peak besides River Umiam and River Umkhen and is perennially flowing with a sufficient dry weather discharge of 97.20 MLD.

The Renovation of Jowai Water Supply Scheme was designed to provide 7.59 MLD of water service to all the categories of consumers, improve the period of service & extend the distribution services to the Urban area.
