DEPUTY CHIEF MINISTER INAUGURATES THE NEW HOUSING OFFICE BUILDING AT TURA ON 28.05.2022

Deputy Chief Minister, Government of Meghalaya Prestone Tynsong inaugurated the New Housing Office Building and MIG Building at the office premises Dakopgre, Tura on 28th May, 2022.

Speaking during the inauguration function, Prestone Tynsong informed that the government is committed to fulfil the aspirations of the people of the state and is trying to develop wherever possible. He reiterated that the present Government along with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and other Ministers have taken a decision to create Mini Secretariat in all district headquarters and also upto Sub-Divisional level which is expected to provide the different necessary requirements of the people in the district in one roof since the office will be housing all other departments. Further, he stated that the First Mini Secretariat will be started in Tura followed by Jowai while the other district headquarters will be implemented phase-wise due to financial constraints, he said. Referring to the shortage of accommodation for district officials and staff appraised by the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Tura, the Deputy Chief Minister informed that more Middle Income Group (MIG) and Low Income Group (LIG) Housing complexes will be created in the state for the benefit of the people in future. Apart from these, he mentioned that important developmental programmes such as infrastructure developments, road projects and many other developments are going on in the State. Further, he appreciated the Deputy Commissioner for delivering his speech in Garo and said that he is inspired to learn as well.

Adviser to the Chief Minister and MLA, North Tura Thomas A Sangma expressed his gratitude for the initiative of the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong for the new Office Building and hopes that the office caters to the much needed facilities of the people of the region. On the shortage of accommodation, he also mentioned that it is pertinent to have more housing schemes implemented in the district in future.

Emphasizing on the importance of infrastructure and space in workplace, the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe said that having enough space is necessary to work efficiently. He had also apprised the Deputy Chief Minister that the Office Building of Deputy Commissioner Office, Tura being the main office for coordination in the district which is very old and that new branch is expanding day by day and hence it requires a new building, he added. Highlighting on the less accommodation facility in the district, he requested the Director, Housing that more MIG and LIG houses should come up in the district so as to provide accommodation facilities especially for government employees in the district.

Director of Housing, Meghalaya Shillong, David D Sangma while delivering the keynote address informed that the department under the guidance of the Government of Meghalaya is committed to serve for the welfare of the people by providing (MIG and LIG) housing facilities to middle and low income groups in the region. Further, stating that housing is the basic need of every human being, he said that the department is implementing various good schemes such as MIG, LIG in all district headquarters and few other locations managed by District Level Housing Committee which is headed by Deputy Commissioner, Member Secretary and other members of the district who fixed the rent and allotment. Housing rules have been framed recently but, yet to be approved by the cabinet and the department continues with the draft rules, he mentioned.

Moreover, the department also implements the Chief Minister Housing Assistance Programme which provides three bundles of durable Aluminium Roofing sheets to the underprivileged and deserving families of the region. Low cost houses like PMAY (Grameen) and also in Urban areas houses are being implemented through C & RD departments, he mentioned.

Other who spoke on the occasion are Deputy Director, Housing, Meghalaya Shillong, F Kharshing while distinguished dignitaries, Additional Deputy Commissioners, Tennystar R Marak, Winje Momin, Officials of Housing Department from Shillong, Tura and all other districts of Garo Hills and people of the area attended the function.
