CM HOLDS 2ND REVIEW MEETING ON THE SITUATION IN MEGHALAYA

Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma today communicated via video conferencing with Chairmen of the Regional Committees, Deputy Commissioners, officials of Meghalaya Police and Departments to review the situation in the Districts in the last 24 hours and to chalk out the plan of action for the Districts.

Stating the loss of lives in the State in the past few hours as sad and unfortunate, HCM has assured to extend any assistance required in the Districts during these times. During the meeting, the respective Deputy Commissioners informed about the initiatives undertaken including damages, death toll, and Rescue and Relief Operations in affected locations.

HCM has called on the team to- ensure the supply of essentials, shifting of people out of high risk houses, identify more Shelter Homes, ensure early release of ex gratia payment to family of the deceased and road connectivity to the Districts.

Stressing on the safety of all citizens a top priority, HCM urged the DCs to work in close tandem with leaders of the community to identify high risk areas prone to floods and landslides and shift the people from those areas to safe zones.

CHEQUES DISTRIBUTED UNDER FOCUS SCHEME

30 Producer Groups falling under Mylliem C and RD Block received cheques under FOCUS (Farmers’ Collectivization for Upscaling Production and Marketing Systems) scheme today in a programme held at MAMTEI, Upper Shillong. A total of 23 lakhs 50 thousand rupees was distributed on the occasion in support of different farming activities.

The cheques were distributed by Shri Lambor Malngiang, Advisor to the Chief Minister and MLA, MDC Nongkrem Constituency in the presence of Shri. P. T. Passah, BDO Mylliem C and RD Block.

Speaking on the occasion Shri. Lambor Malngiang while lauding the hard work of famers said that there is a need to create awareness for farmers about the various schemes and initiatives available so that they can improve and upscale their farming activities. Urging them not to be afraid to avail loans or credit, he stressed on the need to strengthen farming groups across the state and pointed out the importance of food processing and value addition to crops so as to generate more income and also create employment opportunities for the youth of the State. He also informed that a plan for building a cold storage for the benefit of farmers of Nongkrem is being mooted.

Launched in 2021, FOCUS is a flagship initiative of the state government which aims to upscale farming activities in the State by providing farmers, registered as Producers Groups, better market access, funding, value chain addition, machinery support, market linkages etc. Under the scheme Rs. 5000 is provided to each farmer registered as a producers group. An interactive session between the farmers and the officers was also held as part of the programme.
