AWARENESS CAMPAIGN ON FOOD CRAFT INSTITUTE ORGANIZED AT AMPATI

Shillong, June 2, 2014: A one-day Awareness Campaign on Food Craft Institute, (FCI) Tura was organized at the Multi Facility Centre, Ampati, with the logistic support and assistance of the District Administration, South West Garo Hills on Saturday, last.

The programme was aimed at creating awareness to the youth of the area about the Food Craft Institute, the only Hotel Management and Catering technology in Garo Hills region established in 2010 by the Union Ministry of Tourism and State Tourism Department, offering one-and-a half year’s diploma courses in different trades, namely Food Production, Food & Beverage service, Bakery & Confectionary, etc.

Speaking on the occasion, Joint Director of Tourism and Principal incharge of Food Craft Institute, Tura, K. M. Momin highlighted the importance of the Institute in imparting skill, knowledge and training in hospitality industry, hotel, restaurant, event and catering management. He also informed the gathering that the first batch students of the Institute has been provided placement in Resort Hyderabad and that the second batch students have just joined in New Delhi for industrial training recently and urged the students and youths to give more priority in joining professional and skill development institute like FCI for employment opportunities and self-employment since government jobs are on the verge of saturation.

Mr. Momin also emphasised on the fastest growing tourism sector and hospitality industries in the globalized economy and urged the youths to join tourism industries for their livelihood.

Later, a power point presentation on the activities and facilities of Food Craft Institute, Tura besides a film on tourism by a faculty member of the Institute drew a lot of excitement and interest amongst the participants. Extra Assistant Commissioner, Ampati, Laben Marak also addressed the participants during the programme.

Students and youths having minimum qualification of 10+2 in any stream for Diploma and class 10 pass for Craftsmanship courses were also invited to apply for aforementioned courses for the academic year 2014-15, the total fees for which would be Rs, 17,500 payable in two instalments and the last date for submission of forms is on June 30.

A large number of people from in and around Ampati, particularly the students, youths and parents actively participated in the programme.
