MATTILANG AMUSEMENT PARK AT LAITMYNSAW INAUGURATED

As part of the World Environment Day celebration, the Meghalaya Tourism Minister, Smt. D.C.Marak today inaugurated the Mattilang Amusement Park at Laitmynsaw, Upper Shillong in the presence of the local MLA, Mr. P. M. Syiem and the Director of Soil and Water Conservation Department, Mr. K.C.Momin. The inaugural function was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner and Chairman District Rural Development Agency, East Khasi Hills District, Mr. D.P. Wahlang.

Speaking as a Chief Guest, Smt. D.C. Marak lauded the Mattilang Multipurpose Development Welfare Organisation, DRDA and the Soil and Water Conservation Department for their noble efforts to tap and develop the area into a beautiful tourist spot. The inauguration of the Park will provide employment opportunity especially to the local youths and it will send a message to all that Meghalaya has a great potential in the field of tourism. She further stated that with the development of Tourism, the economy of the State will be improved to a large extent. Adding that the, congenial atmosphere should prosper for tourism development.

Mr. P.M. Syiem, local MLA in his short speech as a Guest of Honour, urged upon the people of the area to extend their full cooperation with the government and to see that the tourists that comes to visit the place are safe. He also appeals to the people to continue in their efforts to develop the areas that already have the natural potential in all aspects for tourist destination.

The Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills District, Mr. D.P.Wahlang in his brief speech informed that the Mattilang Amusement Park was developed under the Samporna Grameen Rozgar Yojana - I (SGRY) scheme 2003-2004 through the DRDA, East Khasi Hills as the Nodal Agency in corporation with the Mattilang Multipurpose Development Welfare Organisation (MMDWO), and the project was implemented by the Soil and Water Conservation Department at a total cost of Rs. 22 lakhs.

Director of Soil and water Conservation Department, Mr K.C. Momin also present on the occasion. Earlier Mr. P.L. Mawphlang, President MMDWO, delivered the welcome address while Mr. I. Lyndoh proposed the vote of thanks.

It may be mentioned that the main objective of development of such park is to uplift the society and to preserve and protect the environment. The MMDWO will look after the daily management and maintenance of the Park.

The other highlights of the day includes songs presented by the St. Paul Higher Secondary School, Mawngap and tree plantation by the Chief Guest and all the invitees presence in the inaugural function.
