SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT CONCLAVE HELD AT RESUBELPARA

Shillong, June 7, 2013: As part of the observance of World Environment Day, the North Garo Hills Basin Development Unit organized a day-long Sustainable Development Conclave, 2013 at SGSY Hall of Resubelpara C&RD Block on 5th June 2013 on the theme, “Save Water, Save Earth”.

Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner & Chairman, Basin Development Unit, Mr. W. Khyllep said that the need of the hour was to save water in order to secure the future of generations to come. During the programme, six resolutions were adopted to save and harness the water resources available in the District.

The Conclave was attended by districts officials as well as local leaders. Later, a fishing competition was organized in collaboration with the Bangalmura SHG at Bangalmura Community Natural Fish Pond wherein hundreds of enthusiastic anglers took part and the Deputy Commissioner gave away the cash prizes to the winners.

To mark the day, the Basin Development Unit also distributed saplings to various schools in Resubelpara and Mendipathar.

A separate programme on World Environment Day was also organized at Resubelpara Mini Stadium, which was attended by many school children, district officials and local leaders. During the programme, the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Khyllep gave a clarion call to the people of the district to preserve environment and to plant as much trees to maintain the ecological balance. Tree plantations were also organized in different parts of the district to mark the day.
