Press Release No. 270/11

PRESS NOTE

Shillong, June 8, 2011: The Officer on Special Duty to the Government of Meghalaya, Community & Rural Development Department has informed all concerned that some vested interests are circulating false Job Offer letters purportedly issued by the “Project Director, Smti. Indu Sarma, New Delhi” where the letter head carries the National Emblem and the name “MGNREGA Act 2005”, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. Moreover, it is felt that this kind of action is quite likely to mislead the prospective job seekers to believe that it is the Ministry of Rural Development that has issued the advertisement. This is a clear case of misrepresentation, fraud and cheating, punishable under different provisions of the IPC and other laws.

Therefore, everyone in the State of Meghalaya is cautioned and made aware that no such job offers have been made and the letters are purely designed to malign the image and name of the MGNREG Act and also the Ministry of Rural Development and the letters should not be paid any heed. The Central and State Government are not responsible for any consequences that arise due to anyone giving credence to such fraudulent letters.
