WORLD POPULATION DAY 2022 OBSERVED IN RI BHOI DISTRICT

Together with the rest of the world, the World Population Day was also observed in Ri Bhoi District under the theme A world of Eight Billions organized by the Office of the Block Development Officer, Umling C and RD Block today the 11 July at Nongagang Auditorium Hall Marngar in the presence of Shri Dr. R.Nongrum, BDO of Umling C and RD Block, Shri A. Wanswet, teacher of Alpha English Hr. Sec School, Nongpoh and Smt. A.Thabah, Counselor, DM and HO Nongpoh as the Resource persons. The programme were also attended by school students and teachers from different schools of the area.

Shri Dr. Nongrum, BDO in his keynote address highlighted on the importance of observing the day, adding that the world population day is being observed globally every year on 11 July as to draw attention towards against the problem of overpopulation. He said that this programme has been organized with an aim to create awareness to people about the adverse impact of overpopulation on the overall development of the country and its negative effects on the environment. He also informed the gathering that the world population has been estimated that will soon be hit the 8 billion population in 2022.

Shri A.Wanswet, Science teacher and Smt. A.Thabah Counselor lectured on the objectives of world population day and the need to create awareness on its impacts. They have spoken about various issues such as the importance of family planning, poverty elimination, maternal health, human rights, child marriage, unemployment, global warming etc.

Also, as part of creating awareness to people of that area, school students took part in the rally along with their slogans in an around of Marngar area and ended with prize distribution for the Best Slogan.

WORLD POPULATION DAY OBSERVED IN EAST JAINTIA HILLS DISTRICT

World Population Day on the theme Adopt family planning measures and write a new chapter of progress was observed today at MCH Building, Khliehriat CHC, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat. Organized by the Office of the District Medical and Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, Shri. Jonathan Shylla, Addl. Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat attended the programme as the Chief Guest. Dr N.P Suchiang, DIO, In charge East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, and Dr. Wandap Bamon, Sub Divisional Medical and Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat were among others who attended the programme.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest of the programme, Shri. Jonathan Shylla, Addl. Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat stressed on the negative impact of the exponential growth of the population and he highlighted issues such as maternal health and child health. The husband or a male partner should also take responsibility in caring for the wife or mother of the household, he said while also stating that the mindset of the people can be changed through proper knowledge and information.

Earlier in the programme, Dr N.P. Suchiang, DIO, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat gave a brief introduction on the observation of world population day. She said that the objective of the observation is to raise awareness about family planning, population control, and issues related to the rising population and its consequences on the environment. She further stressed on the importance of family planning methods to control the ever-increasing population in the country. She also stated that there is a need to reduce the Infant Mortality Rate and Maternal Mortality Ratio and the importance of birth spacing of 3 years between the first and second child that should be practiced in all households.
