GOVERNMENT CONDUCTS CONSULTATIVE WRITESHOP TO DRAFT CPHC GUIDELINES FOR MEGHALAYA

The Government of Meghalaya launched the State Health Policy in March 2021. This policy brought out a three dimensional positive healthcare model focusing on preventive, curative and enabling aspects. Since its launch, the State has taken many strides towards achieving the Health Policy objectives, including the need for quality, effective and accessible primary health care for the people of the State. Shifting the focus from selective to comprehensive primary healthcare, the Government of Meghalaya has taken proactive action in order to frame the guidelines for achieving Comprehensive Primary Health Care that is universal, free and close to the community.

The National Health Mission, Meghalaya in collaboration with the Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi has organized a three-day writeshop, from 20th to 22nd July 2022 at the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute, Mawdiangdiang, on drafting CPHC Guidelines for Meghalaya. The purpose of the writeshop was to bring together all the key stakeholders in the health system and engage them in framing the guidelines in a manner that is consultative and participatory. Group based activities were conducted to deliberate on health issues, mapping of care pathways and care packages to ensure efficient and appropriate interventions are delivered. This entailed analyses of existing gaps pertaining to human resources, financing, Information Systems, Referral Networks and community participation.

The first two days of deliberations were invested with community members, Self Help Groups, frontline health workers and programme managers of the Departments of Health andFamily Welfare, Social Welfare ICDS and C and RD National Rural Livelihood Mission. The final day sessions were chaired by Sampath Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Health Department and was facilitated by Dr. Mekhala Krishnamurthy, Senior Fellow at Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi under the guidance of Dr. T. Sundararaman, Former Executive Director, National Health Systems Resource Centre and Former Professor of Internal Medicine, JIPMER, Pondicherry, and Mr. Rajeev Sadanandan, Health Secretary Retd. to the Government of Kerala and CEO, Health Systems Transformation Platform. The State was fortunate to have the expert guidance of Dr Sundararaman and Mr Sadanandan, who have years of experience in Health policy-making, community centred responsive and adaptive health care delivery systems at the state and national level. This session was also attended by the Director of Health Services MI, Director of Health Services MCH, Director of Health Services R, Mission Director NHM, DMHOs and Medical Officers.

STATE TALENTS IDENTIFICATION TESTING WAS CONDUCTED IN RI BHOI DISTRICT

The state Talent Identification Testing Programme launched by the Meghalaya State Olympic Association with the support of the Department of Sport & Youth Affairs, Meghalaya was held today the 22nd July at Nongpoh, NSCA Mini Stadium, Ri Bhoi District which was implemented by the Edge10 Group from UK under the supervision of Shri Ian Cambell, an Australian Olympian and Gold Medalist who broke record in triple jump in 1980. Others who were presented includes Shri John F Kharshiing, Working President, Shri D.Ryntathiang, MSOA Member, Shri B.Nongbet District Sport Officer and others.

Shri John F Kharshiing, Working President, MSOA in his speech informed that this testing programme will be conducting in all twelve districts of the state for identifying the talented candidates through digital equipments and the selected candidates will be sent out to different academies for training along with scholarship. He further informed that the analysis report of the test from all twelve districts will be submitted by the Edge10 to the MSOA as well as to Directorate of Sport and Youth Affairs within the third week of August 2022, indicating the names of best performers with high potential.

Ian Cambell in his speech expressed his gratitude to the State Sport and Youth Affairs for its support and cooperation, he said that this testing programme through digital would enable to find out true talented persons and meanwhile helping them to become professionals through further resources. He urged to all participants to put their 100 percent efforts in doing the tests for their bright future.

More than 245 school students both boys and girls from different locations of the district took part in the event where on the day, four physical tests are being conducted such as 20M Sprint, 10M Ladder run, Compass Drill and the Vertical Jump on calibrated digital mats and all the tests have been done through digitally for accurate result.
