BIJLI MOHOTSAV CELEBRATED IN WJHS

Bijli Mohaysav was celebrated in Amlarem and Jowai of West Jaintia Hills District on 26th July and 29th July, 2022 respectively as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration, organized by the Ministry of Power in association with District Administration West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai used as a platform to celebrate the collaboration between the State and the Central Governments.

Shri. Lahkmen Rymbui, MLA 7 Amlarem Assembly Constituency attended the programme as Chief Guest in Amlarem and in today’s programme Shri. Wailadmiki Shylla MLA 2 Jowai Jowai was the Chief Guest.

Highlighting the benefits of electricity, they expressed their opinion on how electricity has played a very important role in the daily life of human beings, urging every individual to use electricity wisely. They also highlighted the unprecedented growth shown in the power sector over the past few years.

Informing about the schemes implemented by the Government for the benefits of the public, Shylla informed that at present more than 90 percent of the villages in the state have been electrified. He mentioned that through the Integrated Power Development Scheme, the department could upgrade the Power sector in Jowai, Khliehtyrshi substation and at Soomer Sabah. Under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana Scheme 43 villages and 2902 beneficiaries were benefitted and through Sobhagya Scheme 506 villages and 2968 beneficiaries of the District have been benefitted. He further informed that for those villages and beneficiaries not yet covered they will be included in the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme.

It may be mentioned that the Bijli Mahotsavs is being celebrated all over the country under the umbrella of Ujjwal Bharat, Ujjwal Bhavishya Power at 2047 for more public participation and getting across the developments in the power sector to the citizens at large.

The two days program saw large turnouts of crowds from nearby villages, various cultural programmes, nukkad nataks and screening of short films on the power sector was organized. Exhibits highlighting the struggle of U Kiang Nangbah were also displayed in the programme Given the large gathering, it was ensured that all Covid safety protocols such as social distancing and wearing of masks were adhered to. In addition, masks were also distributed to all the attendees. Shri. P K Boro, MCS, incharge Deputy Commissioner, WJHs, Smt. DD Syngai, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Officials from the State Power department, teachers and students were present for todays function held at Chutwakhu Indoor Sports cum Auditorium, Jowai.

INAUGURATION OF THE PHED STATE LABORATORY

The Public Health Engineering Department State Laboratory, the first State Level Laboratory under PHED to be NABL accredited in accordance with the standard ISO IEC 17025 2017, was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister PHED, Shri Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar who was also the Chief Guest of the event, in the presence of the Guest of Honour, Smti. R.V. Suchiang, Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya and other dignitaries, on the 29th of July 2022 at Mawiongrim, Shillong.

The Chief Guest of the occasion, Minister, Public Health Engineering Department, Shri Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, expressed his appreciation to the Department for having achieved this milestone and highlighted that it would be a step forward towards ensuring quality of water as access to clean drinking water is one of the key determinants of public health.

The Guest of Honour, Smti. R.V. Suchiang, Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya emphasized on the need in bringing about partnership with all stakeholders as addressing water quality issues is a shared responsibility to help bring about improvement in public health and socio economic well being of all.

The event was also attended by the Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Shri. D.P. Wahlang, who spoke on the need to prioritize water quality in the implementation of JJM and also gave a glimpse on the progress of JJM in the State and mentioned that Meghalaya has come a long way in taking the mission forward in terms of providing FHTCs to every rural household in the State.
